• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

When I was younger I was quite embarrassed by my reaction but as I got older and had tests more frequently I realised it’s much more common than I thought.
I don't know about overseas today, but in Canada, Mexico, and the USA there are better (potentially) options / instead of blood testing. If it is possible just to find out about them and the potential , that might lead to much better ..... um....... feelings later, and a lot lower costs.

In the UK I don’t pay a penny for my blood tests so it doesn’t bother me. I do pay for all ‘alternative’ medicine. So it has to be highly evidenced for success if I’m going to pay for it. There is also no available alternative to a blood test to test levels in my blood.

I’m not against medical options that fall outside what looks like typical treatment. It’s only my doctors suggestion that I have a particular ‘allergy’ you can’t test for so we did an elimination for, that found a massive trigger for my asthma. But it was a known, evidence based suggestion by a professional. And following it is a pain. I can’t eat anything unless it’s fresh and I know every ingredient that’s touched the food. I can’t eat out at all. But regardless of if I follow it to the letter or not I cannot stop taking my meds. Or stop having the routine bloods. It only reduces the number of anaphylactoid reactions I have.

If there was an alternative way of getting the counts they needed they would’ve been the first ones to go for it. They don’t like the amount of time it takes to get my blood either. It’s about 10 slots worth. Then they have to work harder to catch up. I feel sorry for them more than me!

I don't know about in the UK, but in the USA it is not the cost that matters, but the poor results of blood tests vs the better trained health (true health) practioners. Also, in the USA there are much better alternative tests (instead of blood tests) available in some places. I don't know how many places, but the good consults for information are also available via phone consults (for a small price).

The evidence is as you find it, always subject to being proven(which is necessary for regular care as well as other types of care) . Some places not so good, other places most excellent reports.

...reading further.... there have been excellent proven tests for allergies,
and allergies are very common, a lot more than people realize.
There is even a way, (likely several ways), to test for allergies at home , with no sticks or pain or conjecture , at least as good as the elimination diet. The method is not accept by the money makers, of course, and cost nothing except a few minutes a day for three months, to start. The results? < shrugs > Depends on who you ask, and who you trust.
People have been surprised when their problems go away though, and they did not have to pay anyone.
