Is there anything that you admire about Muslims?

I worked in Saudi Arabia for 4 years. From my personal experience, I think the average Muslim in Saudi Arabia has more respect for Mohammed than the average Christian in Toronto has for Jesus.

Also, Muhammad Ali (the champ) was a Muslim and a man of conscience.

If interested, check out the PBS series, narrated by Ben Kinsley: Islam Empire of Faith.

I admire their belief in one God and one God only like the Israelites. I am a Catholic but at times I do feel like Christianity has been tainted by polytheism. A Father and Son both be considered god is similar to Zeus and Hercules where Gos mated with a human female. I still believe in the trinity in the same regard as we humans have a body, mind, and spirit being made in the image of God. Still, I respect the Muslim's staunch belief in monotheism and the elimination of Paganism. I called myself a Muslim for almost 10 years so that has also tainted my view of Monotheism and Trinity.

God Bless

There's a saying in Islam: "God (Allah) is beautiful and loves beauty." Fundamentally, I think that statement is true.

The thing I'd say I admire the most about that culture is probably the architecture and the ethnic clothing. There's a wide variety of particularly clothing styles across the Middle East, Pakistan, India and Bangladesh. We generally think a place like Iran is very drab; but the traditional dresses that girls and women wear under their chadors are very colorful and frilly. It's the same in Palestine too. Their thorps can be very elaborate. And so can the dresses Saudi women wear under their abayas.

And the thing I like about Islamic clothing tailored toward western (or westernized) converts; is it's very versatile, colorful and varied. "Modest clothing" in American Christian groups tends to be "group affiliated uniform". With western Islamic clothing though; you can be as plain or "flashy" as you want. Their concept of modesty isn't about makeup, nail polish, fabric colors or patterns. It's about being covered. Which I've found offers more options in creativity for modest dress. Thus the "God is beautiful and loves beauty". I agree with that statement!

As far as the religion goes? Most Muslim immigrants I know are fairly ethical and hard working. The culture is also very family / extended family orientated. (Which has its positives and negative sides.) They have some odd interpretations of Bible stories though; as well as some odd beliefs about Christianity. They have more in common with Judaism as per religious rituals go; then they have with Christianity. That doesn't surprise me though because most of their information about history comes from Jewish folklore.

Why elevate a faith that denies the Lordship of Christ?

Why is their dedication to be given acclaim when the allegiance is to a wrong spirit and a deceptive Scripture.

Have you seen the pressure and fear that demands commitment to the requirements of Ramadan ?

Likewise cults demand and get great dedication and discipline, and likewise they should not be envied for their deep loyalty to a lie.

Please do not covet the practices of a faith that is contrary to the Gospel.

I wrote this years back to explain my position on this issue...

What are you worshiping?

There is a myth causing considerable confusion in the Body of Christ originating from the greatest threat to the Christian Church today. Sadly this myth is believed, and passed on, by many who should know better, but have failed to think the issue through or have simply failed to properly weigh the claim.

First, however, let us anchor our thoughts together by considering the biblical account of the events that unfolded concerning Moses and the Children of Israel recorded in Exodus 31.

Moses had been called to commune with the Lord on Mt. Sinai. He had experienced The Lords’ terrible yet compelling presence. He had received from the very hand of God two tablets of stone that had writing engraved on both sides by the very finger of God.
Meanwhile the Children of Israel, in Moses absence, guided in deception by Aaron, were instructed to bow down to a golden calf, which he had crafted.
Now God could see what was happening, He told Moses that the people had corrupted themselves and were bowing down and worshiping an image and not God. The Lord was very angry and decided to destroy them all and start again to build a righteous nation beginning with Moses.
Moses pleaded with God and reminded Him of the covenant He had made with the patriarchs Abraham Isaac and Jacob concerning a people and a land of promise. So the Lord changed His mind, and sent Moses down the mountain to correct this abominable behaviour. Clearly these descendants of Abraham were no longer worshiping God

Today millions of the descendants of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob are behaving in a similar way.
They bow down five times each day to a black cube in Mecca called the Ka'bah. From God’s perspective they are similarly corrupted.
It is what people do that reveals what they worship, not what they say.
Muslim commentators try to explain the phenomena as simply reverence for Allah’s house. Ironically some traditions suggest that Mohammad consecrated this stone as a memorial to end all idolatry. How clear it is that this is not the worship of the God of Israel who commands that we direct our worship to Him alone.

That leads us to the myth that some believe, and even teach – that the God of Israel and the god of modern Islam, Allah, are one.

The primary scripture that guides Allah worship is the Koran. The Koran records that Allah is the author of evil. (Surah 91:7&8) The Koran records that Allah commanded Satan to worship Adam.(Surah 2.32) Islamic worship is characterized by repetition and the image attributed to their god is one who is distant and impersonal, uninvolved in the detail of life and leaving human affairs to fate.

Christians are guided in behavior by the Bible. The Bible teaches that God is Holy and Righteous and that Satan authored evil through prideful disobedience. The Bible consistently condemns any worship not directed to Him. The Bible teaches against vain repetition and encourages prayer to a Personal Loving God who understands and personally changes life circumstances as supremely demonstrated by Jesus.

In no way do I judge these children of Abraham who have become loyal to death to a scripture and tradition that has departed from the direct worship of the God of Israel. Like Moses I plead for their turning back to the Worship of the God of Abraham Isaac and Jacob. May they no longer be corrupted, and may the church no longer be silent, but bring a message of liberation to these cousins of faith.

The few Muslims I've know personally have been very devout and have had very strong family ties. Whether this was due to their faith, culture or upbringing I don't know. However, the ones I knew were definitely not rabid, unthinking terrorists like they are sometimes portrayed.

Yes. My neighbors are a Muslim couple from Turkey. They are attentive, giving, and kind neighbors. They appear devout in their belief and show no disrespect for what I believe. They share what they have with those around them. They bring me goodies to eat from time-to-time despite seeing the Episcopalian window sticker on my car in the driveway. They are okay by me.
