I have been going to an Assembly of God Church for a few years now. I ponder though why you ask?

I don't know why the person started this post, but why not? I think it's kind of fun.

Welcome, mountainmaiden ... I hope you find this forum a place you'd like to hang in from time to time or all the time ... even better ... lol!

Hi, Texas!

Whippingpost, in the past several months I have literally fine-tooth combed every thread on every page in this forum ... that seems to be a standard "I don't know what else to post" type thing ... I think it's kind of fun, also. There are threads also about who belongs to Four Square and others. I, also, think it is a way of reaching out to familiarity.

I completely agree with you, Nikos on the denomination thing. I do think, however, it is good to have one to call your home ... a place to worship, serve, mingle, learn, to be babtized, etc. The problem for me is it just goes to extremes ... but then so does everything with mankind today. It seems it just can't be about God, Jesus, The Holy Spirit, the bible, and the truth. Man just has to stick his stamp all over things. Let's just seperate these from these ... we'll call them this and us that. It drives me crazy! for the Lord. What ever happened to tolerance and love, and mutual respect, and all the things the bible actually teaches. I know it doesn't teach us to seperate, conquer and divide the churches and everyone in them.

I completely got tore up for saying this in two other forums ... but I stand on it and refuse to see it differently ... because there is no other way ... scripture doesn't give one. Revelation 21 ... speaking on the gates (twelve of them) that will be used in the new kingdom does not have one single denomination on them. There is no AOG, Lutheran, Mormon, Catholic, etc. In fact there is not even a gate called Christian. Mankind had better start listening up ... or there is a real possibility they might miss the gate.

That is exactly why I said I ponder why the question was asked. I have spent time reading old posts and even got hollered at for posting in some of them. In those posts I found many times people asked what looked like simple innocent questions only to later twist it around. I suppose I just had finished reading a few of those posts before I responded here.

Jesus never mentioned any denominations either, or at least not that I can find in my bible. I have attended several denominations and have family who are Methodist, Baptist, Four Square, Church of Christ, Vine Yard, Church of God, and of course Assembly of God. None of these has the corner on truth and not a one of them holds a better chance of getting to heaven than the next.

Pardon my earlier pondering, it was more of something I was thinking than asking. My wife says I let my mouth think for me sometimes, as usual she is right.

It's not a problem, whippingpost ... just throwing my pondering out there, also, and I've been told a few times, also ... I just figured I was in good company ... the truth has always been beaten up. They didn't listen to Jesus ... and we are not above our master ... so I don't let it disturb me ...

ps ... the twisting thing ... my advice is to get used to it ... don't accept it ... but get used to it ... I've seen things twisted in these forums I didn't think were possible to twist ...

btw ... your spirit has a familiarity to it ... reminds me of a poster in the spirit-filled forum ... I wonder if we all remind each other of someone ... not having seen their face or anything ... we should be able to recognize each others spirit, I believe ... that is the focus ... I practice trying to see the spirit and not the face ... I often wonder if we went fishing what we would find ... a poster with more than one identity, pretenders, are posters who they are? ... ok ... I need to get on with devotionals ... I'm starting to ramble ... not even making sense to myself ... I think ... your name wouldn't be Jimbeaux, would it? ... lol! ... think I'm going to have to skip devotionals tonight and do them in the morn ...

I could not agree more with the first part of you said but the last part confuses me. I don't know who Jimbeaux is. I hope if I some how remind you of him, that it is a good thing, though your comment feels sarcastic. My grandkids said never to tell my real name or other information on forums but I guess it would be ok to say my real name is Walter not Jim. If someone wanted to pretend to be almost 91 years old, I would have to say don't rush the aging process, but I'd also say don't fight it. Rushing and fighting can get you hurt or make you hurt, believe me old Arther Itis is kicking me good tonight.

I don't think I would fit in well in the Spirit Filled forum since I have not received the baptism of the Holy Spirit yet. I've prayed for it, and believe someday I will receive the gift.

I don't wander around much for fear I won't find my way back, shucks, I get lost in Walmart no less on the internet.

I am going to try and go to bed now if my arthritis will allow it. This weather really has it nagging me tonight and I'm not thinking real straight.

couldn't sleep ... glad I peeked in ... no sarcasm intended! ... good grief ... I must be tired! ... just read my post ... not sure I could have taken anything out of it! ... I must be tireder than I thought ... my apologies ...it was never my intent to be sarcastic ... truly ... when you come to know me you will see that is not my nature ... I try to be very careful of people's feelings ... and treat them the way Jesus would ... I've just been thinking a lot lately about would we recognize someone by their spirit ... perhaps what reminded me of him in you is the writer quality ...

Well the not being able to sleep thing must be in the air tonight. This is about the worse my arthritis has been for a long while. Can't lay down, can't stand, barely can sit.

I still find it incredibly funny that so many have commented on my writing here. I do not tell many this but I only completed the fourth grade. Started to go my fifth grade year but Dad died my brother was just in third grade and Mom and my sisters couldn't handle the crops alone, so I quite school to plant, harvest and sell our vegetables to have enough money to survive. I'd go and load up our wagon and hitch our bony ole horse up then drive the vegetables into town and sell them out by the court house. They would run you off now if you did that, but back then a lot of us poor families would be lined up to sell our crops and wares. Before I would head home I would always stop off at Robertson's Variety store to see their toys and see if I could bum a cigar butt from their ash cans, I didn't smoke them, I'd just chew on them on the way home. If I found two I would feed one to the horse. That poor old horse was about the saddest animal I'd ever seen. She was given to us half starved and all sway backed. I must have been about 13 when she died, that was one big hole I had to dig. The funny thing is, the spot that she is buried is right in the middle of the 18th hole of a golf course now.

I'm gonna go get a cup of hot tea and my electric blanket and see if my easy chair might let me get some sleep in before my newspaper gets here.
