Is there an absolute morality?

I came to my opinion myself. How did you come to yours?
Blind squirrel finds nut -- again?

Human needs (not wants) that humans require to exist and to flourish confer value to those needs. That a need exists is a fact. That "is" converts to the truth of an "ought" in the following method:
  • Does a human need indicate that a human right exists. Yes.
  • Do rights impose obligations on other to respect those rights? Yes.
  • Does a human need bodily integrity? Yes. (We need not be anymore graphic about rape than that.)
  • Does rape violate a person's right to bodily integrity? Yes.
  • One ought not rape another.
The discovery that oughts can be true enables us to draw the line between the objective and subjective aspects of morality.

Well if that is all there is to life then it should be possible to mix those up in the appropriate amounts and bingo, a life is created.

Thanks for taking the time to answer. It sounds like the Vikings (at least some of them) for a time lived in a morally depraved environment.
They did not consider it to be morally depraved. There are other examples we can easily pull of cultures who viewed morality very differently.

Would you then say that morality depends on factors such as cultural and custom differences?

It certainly seems to be a part of it. Human morality seems to exist across a spectrum though we do have some built in aspects. Best we can tell there are both evolutionary structures and cultural variations to our morality.

Confer value...as each individual sees it apply to him or herself. But we don't value all humans equally. Obviously.

I did that. Well, I created the life from what was originally inanimate material and then he took it from there. All growed up now and repeating the process.

I see you took my advice.

So Jesus could bring the dead back from life but God couldn't have used the materials found on the planet a few million years ago to start life. Why not?
God is not limited in any way.

What's your point? Are we back to that "good" rapist story again?

The above in no way support an "objective morality".

God is not limited in any way.

Of course not. So if He decided to start life using the materials He had created in a time limit He decided and in a manner which He had designed then no-one could argue with that (just like we have discovered how He ensured life progressed after it had been formed using a process which we term 'evolution').

We know how he creates planets and stars and mountains and seasons. Let's see if we can find out how He started life on this planet.
