Is there a more godly way to answer the phone?

if someone calls and asks for me by name, i ask them 'who's calling?'; if it's a telemarketer, i ask them to please remove my number from their list, and don't call back, and hang up - if the telemarketer is adhering to the law, they don't call back. according to the 'do not call website', if i call a merchant with my caller id active, i give them permission to call me, so by default the calls i originate don't identify my number (granted i have to activate it on a call by call basis for people like me who do not accept calls that have no caller id). unless someone is calling to minister to me, i figure what my message says to them is more important than their worldly business with me, and i find that they call back after regaining their composure to deal with the worldly business that they originally called about. if i start getting a lot of calls that bypass caller id or 'spoof' my own number, i'll eventually answer the phone and say nothing no matter what they say or if they also say nothing; this usually ends that kind of cycle.

another thing that helps me is to pay in cash; if i have to return something i don't need to give them my number (although i usually have to assert this to get them to refund the cash i originally paid). many business make extra money selling their list of callers and customers to telemarketers, so the less opportunities businesses have to get my personal info, the less i'm bothered by telemarketers.

In an over the top business voice I say "znr died this week and you've reached the funeral home." Then I wait for the silence.
There could be interesting conversations beyond that. Is her apt free... did an old partner have an insurance policy on her...

When my phone rings I just say "hm ugh" or "..............(sigh) hey" or "yes?"

Is there something more biblical I can be saying instead?

Yes, you should quote some biblical verse and say, "Amen, whomever you are, I am but a simple servant of christ, beholden to you".

:p

You could say:
The day I died was the day I started to live. In my old life, I longed for someone to see what was special in me. You did, and for that, you'll always be in my heart. But what I really needed was for me to see it. And now I do. You're a good man, Tom. But you live in a world that has no place for someone like me.

To live a life untamed and unafraid is the gift that I've been given, and so my journey begins. I was supposed to be an artist by now. Instead, I was designing ads for beauty cream.

It all started on the day that I died. If there had been an obituary, it would have described the unremarkable life of an unremarkable woman, survived by no one. But there was no obituary, because the day that I died was also the day I started to live.
