  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Is there a list of bishops somewhere?

Just wondering. Even if it's a wiki or something. How many Bishops are there?
If you're looking to verify a bishop outside the US ...

I'm no expert at this but I can usually find a site online for various locations. Of course, you have to know if the site is canonical.

Often they give the entire "pedigree" ... they may list bishops, and then who their Metropolitan is, all the way up to their Patriarchate. If they do this, you can know easily if the Patriarchate is canonical, then everyone under them will be.

As I mentioned in your other thread, I'm not an expert at this.

You can always ask the person if they belong to a canonical jurisdiction. Our parish actually lists the entire structure - Presbyter, Bishop, Metroplitan, Patriarch, so it's easy to verify. But if they are not canonical and happen to have hard feelings, yes you might get a sharp answer.

Better a sharp answer than to be subject to confusion.
