Aliens are interdimensional entities. Most of them are the gods and heroes of old - but they are really remnant of the fallen, and their offspring. Most lore the gods have an epic battle at the center of their absence, or simply a promise to return. Each generation more parts of the veil are lifted, and they cannot masquerade as something else. There are many principalities and powers that are literally in the lower heavenlies trying to make their own version of heaven on these lower planes of existence. Their goal has been to establish their own seedline and people. (Notice how Cain's firstborns are named just like Adam named his.)
Hauntings are something different, I believe. Those are actually the disembodied spirits of the hybrids force to wander in their dimension. This is why these particular entities try to possess a body - to get the feeling of a body capable of naturally operating in this dimension. Remember Legion begged the Redeemer to put them in the pigs instead of Hell? They don't care what happens to the vessels they possess; they just want to possess a vessel. Even attachments to objects (enchanted objects) are enough for some of these spirits.
However, some hauntings are different types of entities that don't care about possessing a body at all (poltergeist, for example.) They just want to cause trouble - perhaps riding frequency waves made of the fear and confusion that comes from seeing their activity.
As far as other entities from other planets: no I do not believe those entities exist. What we see painted on the night sky is tantamount to the fish looking up through the water, seeing organized light pattern movement, and then concluding there are galaxies, planets and stars from which other entities must come. Even if what we see painted on the night sky is more than a depiction of the luminaries in the heaven above, the earth itself has more than enough mechanism for a wise person to recognize this is a closed system, and should be closed to terrans, and extraterrestrials.
If we go by science fiction logic, a society has to be an overtly warp society (capable of dimensional manipulation.) We are not overtly warp yet, which means if there are any "aliens" here, they are not following a prime directive to try not to interfere with primitive peoples. The clandestine, and later declassified knowledge of extrabiological entities further hints at the malevolence of these entities. Either way, it isn't something we should embrace, or seek out.
