Where is there magic in star trek or star wars. People have powers. Some just do to their species. The force itself isn't magic, its just a natural power. X-men for example have powers. For me theres a separation between witchcraft and having powers. Witchcarft comes from dark arts. The normal depiction is a witch putting stuff into a boiling water to create spells. Where as Storm from X0men for example draws from her bodies mutated genes.

The only time its hard for me to determine whats really witchcraft is in video games where you can "enchant" things. Its for all purposes calling upon dark arts to upgrade something. I am not perfect in what I watch or play but some things I can't watch. Charmed or Beautiful Creatures is one of them. Granted my mom watches that new series Once Upon a Time. They make witchcraft seem...less then what it is. So for my mom she doesn't see it as bad.

Another aspect for me is the main screen time of something I watch about witchcraft such as Charmed, or does it take up a small amount of it. Such as Lord of the Rings. It has wizards but most of the time the story is focused not on the wizards. I guess some might call this making excuses. This is why its up to each person to decide whats right or wrong based on what they convicted of.

If it supports witchcraft as an acceptable practice than yes it is satanic, and the practice itself is abominable in the eyes of GOD in accordance with the scriptures.

Witchcraft should be banned and outlawed in the world for it's corruptible and vile taint that sometimes and most of the time covertly undermines Christian faith and creates cesspools of wickedness. it is very destructive; especially when used in conjunction with unholy motives.

Stay away from those shows like a plague. I had a relative that watched it when it aired back in the 90's and I could sense it was unwholesome and boring to boot.

Praise be to GOD the heavenly father and his son lord JESUS CHRIST forever>>>>>>>>>

And just what is your definition of "Witchcraft" for this banning exactly ?
What is ones witchcraft is another technology.

ETA:
Also are you for bringing back the Death penalty for "Witchcraft", or are you willing to change the Bible's required Punishment for that?

I enjoy charmed. But my mom, who is a devout Christian, says that it is Satanic. I am a Christian as well, and I don't want to watch anything that is Satanic.

It is fiction, and it has no real or meaningful parallels in modern Neopagan practice or belief...such similarities are superficial and/or coincidential.

In so far that you recognize it as television and fiction, you're fine.

Stay away from these movies too. Lots of witchcraft.

Joking btw. If someone follows witchcraft from watching a semi-famous show on the "WB", then I think deeper problems lie.

Mho to tell you the truth, most of T.V. is satanic. Not just the regular programs, but the commercials often too.

The Bible tells us that witchcraft is a sin. There lots of things that are sins that t.v. tries to make look harmless, or cute or desireable. The programs are programming the watchers so often.

Witchcraft is never cute, never safe. It is about trying to usurp the power the Almighty and get things through not at all harmless channels, instead of going to the Father in prayer.

Prayng you will be led more and more to entertainment that will edify your soul.

Revelations says, about Babylon (and we are living in spiritual babylon which was big on witchcraft and sin in general) "Come out of her My people" so that we do not "participate in her plagues." The Bible says in the last days there will be plagues. Look at all the wierd things they are doing with mad science, as in genetic engineering. I think these are the last days, personally, and that we may see plagues like we never imagined before.

Praying that you will be living close to Messiah and that you escape them all.

The most damaging thing about all these shows is this, by way of an example.

My sister lets her daughter read/watch Harry Potter. Her daughter, in middle school, now wants some of these cutsie little "how-to" magic books and kits. And none of it has any power, of course. It's just for fun. But that's the problem. The kids watching this now think about how cool magic and spells and such are. It isn't dangerous, or demonic, or dark, but cutsie and fun. Same with Sabrina the teenaged witch, and Bewitched.

It all has made magic and witchcraft something safe, something to be played with, in our kids' eyes. Now when the anti-Christ comes along, with real ungodly power, it will not ring so many "that's bad" bells in our consciousnesses. It will seem cool, exciting, and we will lose many people to the enemy because of it.

When I was watching Charmed, I thought it was really interesting and neat. White witches, fighting demons and protecting "innocents." But since the power behind witchcraft of ANY color is Satan, there is nothing safe or neat about it. That is what I'm concerned with.

So you're a Mind reader now ?

LOL. It's not at all about mind reading. It's about common sense. God DETESTS anything to do with witchcraft, fortune telling, spiritism, etc. He hates it because it is a lie and it leads us away from Him. He hates it because it to our own detriment to participate in it. If you read the bible, it's plain to see these things. It's nothing to do with mind reading at all. It's about understanding the boundaries God gives us and why.

Daughter of His said:
Do you thing Jesus would let a child under His care read Harry Potter or water Charmed? I think not.

Aside from homosexual Dumbledore I don't see what is wrong with Harry Potter.

Like I said, I am a fantasy writer. Would I think Jesus would approve of my stories even though people practice magic? Yep. The secular fiction market for YA has been polluted with immorality and I am writing fantasy that is safe and with strong values.

If you want to blanket everything that has magic or witches you have to include all realms of fiction...even Christian fiction like the Chronicles of Narnia.

In reality practicing magic is not Biblical. In fiction the Bible doesn't exist. I would rather use it (magic) as a tool to witness with if someone picks up one of my books to read because of the magic listed on a keyword. In my books it's not all really magic anyway, but the Creator showing himself through people in supernatural ways. I don't use the term God because it isn't earth.

I agree with amandatea! The Bible clearly tells us that witchcraft is an abomination to the Lord.

So are you for Punishing it the same way as the Bible states, or is it OK To change the Bible in that aspect?

Also How do you Define Witchcraft ?

Before I get straight down and to the point. Let me first clear up a few minor misconceptions. The part in the Bible that says "Thou Shalt Not Suffer a Witch to Live" is actually describing something very different from what most people who call themselves witches these days mean. This is yet another sign that the world has gone quite off it's rocker.

Most practicioners of "magic" consider themselves wiccan ( if they have a brain) or simply call themselves Pagan. The word pagan is a slur, created by the catholic church ( and subsequently put into manuscript) to depict any number of religious beliefs that were not Christian. Wicca did not come into existence until the so called "neo-pagan" religious movement, and was one of the terms used by Alestier Crowely to propogate his form of Satanic worship that eventually became the Satanic church lead by Antone LeVey. However, it was attractive to many teeny boppers who felt that Christianity was too judgemental ( I wonder why that would be) and they jumped on the band wagon and literally gave control of themselves to something that is at best hogwash, and at worst a cryptic form of Satanism.. The worst part is that these people in and of themselves are so confused that they will not know who or what to trust, and ultimately will probably stay in this state for ever, because "KILL IT, ITS A WITCH".....

Let's move right along. ( and if I hurt anyones feelings tonight, forgive me, I am in more pain right now than I care to let on because of the loss of my dog. Laugh if you want too, and I dont care, but I loved that dog and she loved me.)

The passage in leviticus that reads "Thou Shalt Not Suffer a Witch to live" the word witch here is the key piece that we are looking at, and with little research we learn that the original word used in Hebrew (MeKhashefah) does seem to denote someone practicing a dark art, but the rest of the bible seems to lead to that dark art being either Pharmekia or Magos. So the use of the word there is tricky to be sure, however, ultimately it is ( from my understanding) discussing someone who cohorts with familiar spirits. ( surprisingly this does happen quite regularly in Wicca, and many other neo-pagan beliefs) however, the word witch seems to be a bit of a bad translation.

Still.. All that information aside. Let me make one thing clear, and this is the crystal truth.

We are not to worship idols, we are to be separated from evil things, and we are to try and stay pure.

Whether or not I, personally, believe that charmed is a good or bad show is irrelevant. What matters is exactly what Spunkin said.

Is it edifying God when you watch it? I think with most things on TV the truest answer to that is no. Are you learning anything related to God? Do you have your Bible out studying with the show and learning with it? .. NO..

Ultimately what you chose to watch is between you and God, and I can not make that decision for you, nor should anyone on any message board make that decision for you. What should happen is simply you pray and let God decide.

Someone also said if you are posting to ask this question you already know the answer, I think that is another thing that is true. Yes, you know the answer because God moves your heart, and while you might find a thousand people that say it is ok to go and watch it, I will simply fall back on the whole book of Ecclesiastes which in the end closes with the very true point.. If it doesn't involve serving God the Father, then it is useless. Maybe Good, maybe bad.. but definitely useless..

Hope that helps..

If theres one thing I learned. No matter who you are, as christians we ALL make excuses to some degree about what we do in life. When you have to say "<insert thing> is not really bad because <insert reason>", then you already know its likely bad. But we try to use logic, loopholes and twisting of scripture to make something we do seem acceptable.

Thats pretty much is whats going on in this topic. Which includes me mind you. If theres one thing the devil is good at, its making us find excuses to do things we shouldn't. I used to game alot, played pretty much any type of game no matter the nudity, gore, swearing...etc. Giving it up annoyed me. So when people questioned me on my gaming I made excuses.

But after finally giving it up I felt better and realized how much it was effecting my walk as a christian. Its why this topic annoys people because telling people somethings are bad is like trying to take away the thing they love. No one wants to admit its wrong because they "must have it". Life without seems almost unfair.

In the end we can all think what we want about these types of subjects. We answer to God when we die for what we choose to watch, do, buy...etc. Any excuses we had here won't matter to him. I'm sure most of what we do God would find offensive. But this is the battle we face as our fleshy selves.
