Do you take communion? Why stuck on "wafers," EC's use intinction... I'm not sure all do... there is variation...

Isn't it useful for a community to fund a person to devote their entire existence to understanding and teaching theology?

Taking communion and participating in the Eucharist is two entirely different things.

And yes--the minister of the church should be supported by it's members. But the difference between our communion services is that we can have them without the pastor's presence. I know Protestant inmates who perform communion and footwashing services without so much as an elder present. They use crackers and cool-aid. God see's and understands.

I suppose that depends on what's being taught.

2 Ti 4:3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; 4 And they shall turn away [their] ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

Will the Sabbath be what sets Gods people apart in the end?

The Sabbath will be the great test of loyalty, for it is the point of truth especially controverted. When the final test shall be brought to bear upon men, then the line of distinction will be drawn between those who serve God and those who serve Him not. While the observance of the false sabbath in compliance with the law of the state, contrary to the fourth commandment, will be an avowal of allegiance to a power that is in opposition to God, the keeping of the true Sabbath, in obedience to God's law, is an evidence of loyalty to the Creator. While one class, by accepting the sign of submission to earthly powers, receive the mark of the beast, the other choosing the token of allegiance to divine authority, receive the seal of God. {GC 605.2}

A lot of people feel good about them selves for resting on the Seventh Day, not knowing they are not keeping the Fourth Commandment by not working Six full days. If you keep half the commandment only, you don't keep it at all!
