Do you think (or should I say, do you feel) that 21st Century technology is taking us all down a road to what will inevitably end up being a bad place??

Are computers and smart phones and GPS devices and other such digital appliances actually a vast and unrecognized deception being used on human beings??

While we naively see these devices as modern technological miracles, are they, in reality, merely tools being used by hidden dark forces somewhere to lead mankind down a slippery slope that ends with annihilation??

What do you think....too Orwellian??

A technological eden I dare say.

What was that that satan said to Eve about her eyes being open?

How about a taste of becoming a god......?

Indeed he whom they(riutalists and illuminists) call the "light" is responsible for our technology. They don't deny this, but again, the sheep will sleep!

Those who take technology for granted, do so at their own peril, Tim. Consider Einstein ... Albert Einstein: Quotes on God, Religion, Theology
A knowledge of the existence of something we cannot penetrate, of the manifestations of the profoundest reason and the most radiant beauty - it is this knowledge and this emotion that constitute the truly religious attitude; in this sense, and in this alone, I am a deeply religious man. (Albert Einstein)

I do not believe in a personal God and I have never denied this but have expressed it clearly. If something is in me which can be called religious then it is the unbounded admiration for the structure of the world so far as our science can reveal it. (Albert Einstein, 1954)

I believe in Spinoza's God who reveals himself in the orderly harmony of what exists, not in a God who concerns himself with the fates and actions of human beings. (Albert Einstein)
Einstein had a profound belief in God and "expresssed it clearly". Einstein stood with the God of Truth, but organized religion perhaps not so much ...

Those who develop technology, of necessity, deal with the harsh realities of TRUTH. God may provide insights and allow solutions, but it appears that God does not change nature to fulfill individual whims of fancy. Is that the devil at work? I think not ...

The devil at work is seen in the likes of Karl Marx: Desires, wants, needs seeking fulfillment on a whim without any attention to the laws of God; without paying any attention to cause and effect; without paying any attention to the motivations of individual men.

Einstein was pretty much an agnostic who thought the belief in a personal god was childlike. His god was a scientific inquisition of nature. I am a physicist but I reject the God of Einstein - it is no God at all.

You are talking about Karl Marx, right? Not Groucho? Have you read any Marx because to characterise him like this is just bizarre.

without paying any attention to cause and effect;

Again - Karl or Groucho?

The problem with technology on a whole is its glorification of man and its perversion of God created things. Technology in a lot of areas tries to copy God but does not use what God has provided.

You can take hide glue and spread it on a mirror and when it dries it will lift pieces of glass out of the surface of the mirror and then you can take water and clean it up.

Up until a couple or so year ago there was no chemical glue with that kind of grip nor the ease of clean up. If there is one now I am not aware of it.

Good point brother:thumbsup:.
The Lord has given us dominion over nature, and the use of nature as a science is probably pleasing to Him IMO, but when we step outside nature, and compound chemicals/atoms and such, we are corrupting nature, and are probably displeasing Him.

Just IMO.

Hmm ... didn't say Marx wasn't convincing ... just that it was fantasy ... at least I hope that's what I conveyed ... please let me know if I missed the mark on that though. ;)

Marxism has been tried again and again ... with the same undesired result ... oppressive totalitarianism ... hasn't yet progressed past that ... except when system collapse occurred.

As with physics, there is cause and effect. Sometimes it's hard to separate the cause from effect, but when an experiment is tried repeatedly using differing input variables and essentially the same unexpected result keeps recurring, then there is something wrong with the equation ... in this case Marxism ... or perhaps you have a different explanation? ... maybe the real Marxism hasn't been tried yet? ... some universal constant has been found which was previously unaccounted for? ... maybe if the USA goes away then the Marxist utopia will finally be able to manifest itself?

It depends on what we use those devices for, and to what length.
If we keep in mind that we are technology's master, and not the other way around, we will be fine.
I just feel sorry for those who, without all of the modern conveniences, would be totally lost, and would probably die, because they would not know what to do.

What's too Orwellian? Your post or the technology itself? :p

I think it's spectacular, I love my iPhone — I'm an Apple junkie. Technology can just as easily be used for good (e.g. spreading the good news) as it can for evil.

With the advent of the internet, computers and other media devices it's laid the groundwork for an exponential increase in the sharing of the good news.

Oh this should be good. The Urban Legends and Conspiracy Theories will be flowing freely. :p

Is technology taking us to an evil place? I'll bet that that question was asked in 1900, 1930, 1960, 1990, etc. Let's ask the Amish.
Technology doesn't take us anymore. Humans decide whether technology is used for good or evil.
YES - The Book of Revelations says that technology will be used for evil - the Mark of the Beast (a computer chip?). However, the computer chip, itself, is not evil.

No the verichip is not itself evil. And the benefits of it's current use "seem" to be for the greater "good".

That said, there is noone who knows better how to sell and adapt his technology than that serpent of ole'. We know that he has created it for that purpose, so whether we see good in it or not means we should avoid even unto death.

Just a random note about technology. In late March a friend of mine set off on a journey to walk from Edinburgh, Scotland to London, England. Every afternoon I'd find out where he was, work out how far he was from the next town on Google Maps, and help him phone up some hostels that I had looked up on the internet to book a room for the night.

It just occurred to me that if Joseph had an iPhone and access to the internet Jesus might not have had to be born in a stable...

Technology dictates not only our lives; it can dictate aspects of our religion too.
