Back to what Jesus said, the wicked will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life. So what is eternal about this punishment remembering that it is eternal in the same way that life is eternal for the righteous?
Matt 25:32-46 is a parable explained
This whole discussion is eerily like a conversation with one of Jehovah's witnesses about the same subject; the only difference is that the Jehovah's witness would be using the NWT and it says (Matthew 25:46) . . .These will depart into everlasting cutting-off, but the righteous ones into everlasting life. So the battle is slightly more skewed with them.
Interpretations differ on prophetics, but parables explained just mean what they say.Yes. And with that parable you see that NATIONS are being considered. Jesus, Himself, said He had not come but to the lost sheep of the house of Israel and MUST be that the parables concern that nation. He was talking about a judgment BEFORE He brings that nation into the land of Canaan under the bond of the New Covenant and with Israel and the House of Judah (Jeremiah 31:31).
Ezek 20:37-38
37 And I will cause you to pass under the rod, and I will bring you into the bond of the covenant:
38 And I will purge out from among you the rebels, and them that transgress against me: I will bring them forth out of the country where they sojourn, and they shall not enter into the land of Israel: and ye shall know that I am the Lord.
MC, you do know that death is everlasting punishment, right?
Just to clear that up.
let me rephrase that:
Death could be construed as everlasting punishment.
I mean, you ain't coming back from this one...
No such thing as the "general resurrection" or "General judgment". Death is death and not life in another form. Foreign to Scriptures.
Ezekiel 28 about Satan:
I will cast thee as profane out of the mountain of God.
I will destroy thee, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire.
I will cast thee to the earth.
I will lay thee before kings.
I will bring forth a fire from the midst of thee and it shall devour thee.
I will bring thee to ashes upon the earth.
Thou shalt be a terror.
Never shalt thou be any more.
The last enemy to be destroyed is...DEATH. Must be more to be destroyed, huh?
You see this discussion as a "battle", MC?
That would explain a couple of things.
In short I'd like to see some retractions, it would be encouraging.
Who decides what is condemned? A council?
Nothing but bugs under a board.
Rev 14:11 And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.
Day and night can have no reference to the eternal state. They gave no rest to those who ARE worshiping. It is the PRESENT participle and does NOT say those who WERE worshiping or DID worship the beast. The implication is the they will have no rest WHILE they are on earth in such a state.
I bet somebody was under EXTREME conviction about what they had done.
So there's nothing cruel in me affirming what Jesus said by saying that the wicked are eternally tormented in gehenna. great. some progress.
Anyhow, this old lady has had a lo-o-o-o-ong day, so I'm gonna cut out of here, and get my jammies on, say my prayers...and be a-headin' fer my beddin'...
Later, kids!
Or some Truth for that matter.
Whoa, wait...you cut out most of my post, MC.
Why would you do that?
It seems dishonest. Surely you aren't being dishonest?
Did you read what I said? If you did, you would know that I did not endorse your idea that the wicked are eternally tormented in gehenna. What I said was that they had given up the privilege of life forever.
Do not twist my words, MC.
At least yer honestNo not really, however question finally down to my lower paygrade....the Word is the judge of every dis-believer....Jn.12:48a.
Old Jack's opinion at the bottom of the pecking order.
Excuse me?
Did you just call me a liar, or am I misreading you?
She won't...cause it doesn't match up with her "gut feelings"Because most of it was irrelevant to my reply. I included everything that related to what I wanted to reply to. It's just brevity. The link was there so anybody interested in reading everything you wrote could click it. I don't see why you're complaining. By the way, when are you going to retract your accusation against God and other christians for saying what Jesus said about eternal punishment?
