  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Is my problem committment?

Neat story, TillICollapse. Michelle, I think it is neat you are working on a geeky project. Again, it is unlikely you could do anything that would damage it. If it will make you feel better, I am not much of a handyman, but I have survived my little disasters. I recently assembled a wooden bookshelf. It is a sturdy thing. Well, I got it assembled and I noticed I put the center shelf, which helps hold it together, upside-down. I quickly disassembled half of it. The glue had not completely dried - I barely was able to take apart what I needed to without breaking anything. And put the shelf in right and spent an hour putting things back together. I kind of half expect when I do some little project I will break something and have to fix it.

That does make me feel much better. Your story reminded me of when we bought our newest TV (gift from my great aunt). We have an entertainment center and it had these shelves on one side and then the bottom is split into three sections across. Well to fit the new TV and not have to buy a new piece of furniture to accommodate it, I thought if we take the shelf divider out and the shelves on the top portion the TV would fit perfectly (and it does). The problem is that the divider was screwed in with screws that you can't get to because they are inside? They didn't come up or screw down thru the top so it was quite a feat to get that shelf out, not to mention, I was trying to save the shelf stuff in case I sell it in the future (why? IDK just in case I guess) LOL. We did eventually get it, but man was it hard.

The weed thing, I called another place and they charge more, so I am feeling better and this is for spraying once now and once in 6 months from now, and they guarantee no weeds so if I get some they will come out and re-spray.

OK let's see where should I start? OK well I DID try to hook up my new system with the antenna etc. Everything is plugged in, but I could not get my old TV to do any kind of searching for channels. And nothing was coming in, so I don't know how to fix that. I did manage to clean the years plus worth of dust behind my TV LOL. Oh and I also hooked up the ROKU no problem at all. So I can stream, I just wouldn't get regular channels if I disconnect directTV. So IDK what to do.

so half fail half success.

MBM, I'm not sure what exactly you have there, but I do know what I have to do here to make an antenna work. Obviously, disconnecting from U-verse. Then, I have to have a converter to change the digital signal that's coming in through the antenna to the analog signal that my old TV can understand and use. A halfway decent converter can be bough at Radio Shack for about 50 dollars, I had to buy one recently for my brother (he's in a nursing home these days). So, plug the antenna into the converter, follow the directions to plug the converter into the back of the TV, and--- assuming you still have over-the-air signals in your area-- you should have working TV.

You may have to mess with the menu on your TV to change from cable/satellite to antenna feeds, some TVs can throw a hissy fit if that isn't right. Beyond that-- I'm just guessing here.

But my antenna has the right connection to connect to the TV so why would I need the converter? I had to get a converter for the ROKU because it only has HDMI plug ins and so I got a converter and then plugged the three prong cord into the TV.

So you are saying I need another converter box? Hmmmm But then will the channels just show up? My TV won't "search". No menu for it. I did change it from cable to TV on the TV and now it will not let me change it to anything else, not even back to cable.
