I could invite you to do the same- go to Holy Mass anywhere and you will see the bible is read and preached at every Mass daily.

But you would claim that Catholics are not bible based...

Everyone has their opinion on what is biblical and what is not. That's the point. There are as many bible only Churches as there are bibles out there.

Ad not all scandals are dealt with correctly. I know some personal cases where pastor do horrible things and he he goes unpunished because the congregation handles it.

It's usually all hush hush just as it is in any larger denomination. The dealing with is usually a promise to never do it again.

I was raised Catholic, until my whole family left when I was about 10. I didn't receive much word, but got hurt by the nuns quite a lot. Most of that whole parish left because it was a bad apple of a church. But, still, it was unfulfilling rituals to me and my tiny Bible that I still have is all about performing the eucharist. It's true, I could scan the pictures because that's all it is is pictures of the eucharist. There was no "bible" taught to me, nor did we bring Bibles. It could have been a very odd church? Anyhow, all the parents took their children out of there because of the abuse. And also I don't believe in the real presence, so that would be a sin for me to take communion under those circumstances. "Whatever is not of faith, is sin".

what about the liberal Christians? you go into the sub forum here and.. they're pretty bible based too, so they say...

saying you are bible based don't make it so. point is, anyone can open a bible only church and that is what we consider a denomination. They are independent- self run, and they teach what they feel is bible based. That makes them a denomination.

Most of the liberals are coming from the catholic sphere, i.e., Methodist, Anglican, Modern Liberal Catholics. Liberalism is not coming from sola scriptura based denominations. You have that backwards and need to look in your own denominations log in thy eye for that problem. A large part is coming from modern liberal catholicism. Do some research on it!

So? What does this have to do with anything? They may belong of a church but are the truly of Christ? Going to any church does not make you a Christian.. Just like going to the doctors office makes you a doctor.. Going to Christ and Christ living in You is what makes a Christian..

and I uphill, you said that the beliefs were not that far apart...

you need to google some of those baptists denominations and and see for your self.

I recommend the 'two- seed-baptist" which is spin off of the "anti mission" (yes that's right, anti mission) baptist, it is very interesting stuff...
mmmmhmmm. did I say there were no differences?

no.

let's try not placing a false representation here.

besides that, it's the pot calling the kettle black, isn't it!

i think it's important to note here that Joesph having other kids from another marriage is just speculation and it's what the eastern church chooses to piously believe (it's not infallible to them).

I personally do not think Joesph had other kids... I think these 'brothers' were cousins because in Jewish tradition, in those days if you were an only child, your cousin was considered your brother.

Combine that with the fact the bible never says Jesus had blood siblings, nor does it speak of Mary giving birth to anyone but Christ.

The thing is, we can all have our opinions but none of us are infallible, we can be wrong... and in this situation, the bible is ambiguous at best.
yes, it is ambigous... as it is ambigous for me to introduce my brother as just that.... I don't identify if he's my blood brother or not.... purely ambigous!

Agree, and I would use the same argument...that just because someone is Catholic, and they support liberal positions that are against the teachings of the Catholic Church....doesn't make them a true representation of Catholicism.

Okay so what makes them a true member of the Catholic Church then?

The "brothers" of the Lord. Neither Aramaic, the language Jesus probably spoke, nor Hebrew has a separate word for cousin.

Well, then why did the Bible refer to Elizabeth as Mary's cousin?

Obviously, if one is going to be a true representation of Catholicism, their actions need to reflect, not go in opposition to the teachings and precepts of Catholicism.

exept the precepts of Catholisism are different from rite to rite.

there is no complete unity in the Catholic church either, hence rendering the "you have so may protestant denominations" accusation both moot, and hypocritical.

Hi. Some others have though, concerning the multitudes of protestant denominations that abound today.
This isn't the "pope" talking here but a chosen vessel sent by Jesus to form His church. And again, Paul never mentioned either the name "Mary" or even eternal "hellfire".

2 Corinthians 13:11 Henceforth, brethren, rejoice; be made perfect, be comforted, be of the same mind, be at peace, and the God of the love and peace shall be with you;

Jesus HAD BROTHERS...don't give me the cousin no word for it...GOOD catch sister!! I am glad you pointed that out!
