These people should be rounded up and forced to take a basic course in meteorology. Also I will be flatly shocked if there were not a few, if not quite a few, fetuses that died as a result of this storm. Hardly makes sense to punish us for killing fetuses by, well killing more of them.

Oh, wait I was applying logic to the rantings of extremists, pardon me.

I agree, sick and twisted logic. Plus there are half a dozen things that would make more seinse like punishment for supporting Bush, punishment for gambling, perhaps even punishment for the Saints not winning the Superbowl (everyone knows God is a Saints fan right?)

http://www.boston.com/news/nation/articles/2005/08/01/hurricanes_more_powerful_study_says?mode=PF
The destructive power of hurricanes in the North Atlantic and North Pacific has nearly doubled over the past 30 years, at least partly because of human-induced global warming, according to a controversial new study by a prominent climate researcher at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

You get them forming off Africa, and moving across; basically forming in the warm tropical waters. And as they go north they lose their energy. Their energy is coming from hot sea-surface temperatures. And the oceans have warmed, significantly. So we do have warmer oceans, and tropical oceans are going to be feeling that as well as the more northerly oceans.

This year marked the strongest and most frequent hurricane season we have seen in history. And, as we all know, hurricanes form from the warm tropical waters, which are now getting warmer earlier, and staying warmer longer, thus creating stronger, more frequent hurricanes.

But then again... what do those darn scientists know?

if the subject of this thread is what this link is talking about, then that link should be regarded as useless junk.

what kind of audacity is that to even think possible that at the death of possibly thousands of life, of a natural hurricane, something that has been happening for millions of years (or thousands if your a young earth type of person), have anything to do with some modern agenda? wow that is sickening and sad to even think someone would have the stomach to even compare such a travesty to some agenda against abortion.

And good grief... even if these lunatics were right... this would be like God killing Lot, and leaving Sodom and Gomorrah to run rampant (considering how Louisiana voted for Bush, someone many pro-lifers are aligned with).

The state of Lousiana did go to Bush, but they are not reliably Republican. They also helped Carter and Clinton to the White House, for example.

What the salon article is describing is nonsense. New Orleans is probably the most liberal city in that state, according to my relatives that live in Jennings, Lousiana.

The article is not describing Christian groups that are in Louisiana, though.
One of the groups mentioned was "Columbian Christians for Life", which according to an internet search is based in South Carolina. The other group mentioned was "Repent America" which is based in Pennsylvania.
The linked OP to the Repent America site sounds like something the Phelps cult would put out ( http://www.repentamerica.com/pr_hurricanekatrina.html )
based on their logic, there are plenty of places that should have been hit by a natural disaster before New Orleans

Pat Robertson said God would rain down disasters for befriending "sodomites".

Ah, yes. Pat Robertson, God's sole spokesman...the link between us mere mortals and the Almighty God. ;)
