I think it's something you have to decide on your own. I know for me, if I read Stephen King now I'd get sucked dry. But when I was a brand new believer and I read a few of his books, they were really helpful in identifying what was good, what was bad- help me learn to critically analyze things for their messages and themes, and helped me form opinions. People change, and so do how things affect them.

I'd use a lot of discernment in it. If you feel like it's not a good idea, then don't.

If you're finding yourself feeling guilty about reading Stephen King, but enjoy that sort of genre, you may want to try Frank Peretti, who writes books about spiritual warfare (angels and demons, if I remember correctly) and is read by many SK fans.

Ted Dekker.

Both these guys are really good writers - in many ways they are better writers than SK. And they have wonderful plots and messages!

I had big problems with POTC; my niece didn't. Therefore I don't watch them and she does! :D

Let the Holy Spirit teach you what is right for you. If you are uncomfortable, don't continue watching or reading! Otherwise, you chance searing your conscience and ignoring the Holy Spirit the next time. Sounds like you're on the right path!

I read that Stephen King was inspired by Richard Matheson's books. I read Bid Time Return that Matheson wrote and another book and he is a good writer. But....there is some horror stuff and sexual stuff in others. Libary books no less. I took them back when I saw what was in other books he did.

I dont think that Steven King or any other writter out there is bad, I honestly think if you feel its wrong or feelings of negetism then do what is best for you.. I dont get vibes that things are wrong to read or look at.. Now if I did felt convicted then yeah I'd stop and do my best to remove myself from reading certain books or watch certain shows.. We each have to work out our own salvation and do what we think is acceptable in Gods eyes.. God bless you..
