Is it wrong to ask for prayer requests?

You just said in another thread that you can't have a personal relationship with God because you can't see how someone can have a relationship with someone who wants you to fear and dread them.

I'm sorry, but I don't give much credibility to anything you say anymore.

Good. The last thing I would ever want is YOUR approval.

you haven't a clue what the bible says, and when people point it out, and respond with scripture to the complete opposite of your statement, you simply reply "the bible says alot of things" my guess is your about 15 yrs old, and are really bored, and found your way here, and are just putting up mindless post for laughs........have fun:p

Most don't have a clue what the bible says, including myself. Let's take Matthew 18:20 for example. In context it means something entirely different than what we think. [link]

That is nonsense.

God isn't moved by people whining or getting a bunch of your friends to pray for you.

God is Almighty and is in heaven.

There are a few things that move Him, such as faith, but having a bunch of people praying for you guarantees nothing in itself.

Matthew 18:19
“Again I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask,
it will be done for them by My Father in heaven.

God wants His people to come together in love, unity and prayer.

Acts 1:14
These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication,
(altogether the number of names was about a hundred and twenty)

Romans 15:30
Now I beg you, brethren, through the Lord Jesus Christ,
and through the love of the Spirit,
that you strive together with me in prayers to God for me,

Pray for me Paul asks... "I beg you"
Paul asks, requests pray for himself....
Pray for me, I need your prayers and support.

God moves when others are praying on behalf so we are to pray for one another.

Ephesians 1:16
do not cease to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers:

Philemon 1:22
But, meanwhile, also prepare a guest room for me,
for I trust that through your prayers I shall be granted to you.

Yes actually to be perfectly truthful where ONE is gathered in His name He is there in the midst, would you like to say Jesus is not present when we pray?.......and how entirely different is it to say that Christ is present when confronting a brother with sin, than when praying for a brothers well being

or is it just a nit picking ploy to show what was the true context concerning the Mathew 18:20 text, While I may even agree with you with your contextual finding isn't it also generally a true statement that when we gather togather to worship or pray that God is with us, and the presence of the Holy Spirit over shadows those who love Him..........you need to let go of your unforgivness, its going to destroy your life

Viewing the bible with a hebraic pov one can see how Mathew 18:20 would explain a sort of loving court system designed to bring a brother or sister back to fellowship, and how to operate it that system.

I'm not nit picking. There are a lot of scriptures that typically get taken out of context, tons.

There are several scriptures that tell us how to pray, so we really don't need Mathew 18:20 to explain to us what we already know to be true, the He is with us when we pray.

Please can you stop making our dialog about unforgiveness, now? We're just discussing scripture.

Quick question: Does faith move God or does faith mean nothing?
Love moves God's hands as we pray for each other and believe that God
wants us to love each other more that He wants us to have faith to move mountains.

God made us as followers of Christ needy for each other as God doesn't call us to
be lone rangers but to love and serve each other as we lay down our lives for each other.

Part of that laying down of our own lives is humbling ourselves enough to ask others to pray
for us as we admit we need the prayers of others to move God's hands in our life.

Remember Saul and the man God sent to him to pray for him after
he was struck with blindness and helpless?

There is a humbling of a man's heart when he has labored in prayer
and not found an answer and then God sends someone to pray and
in a moment the answer comes from God through the love and prayer
of another believer in Christ.

We need each other and we need to submit ourselves to others and
confess our faults and let others pray the prayer of faith to deliver us.

James 5
13 Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing psalms. 14 Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. 16 Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.

I agree that love is the answer, but you can be loving and still get no answers to your prayers. My Bible says faith is what gets results. Although, "faith does work by love" doesn't it?

Perhaps you need to humble yourself and go to others as I have stated and as the Bible clearly teaches.

If we could pray for ourselves and get all that we need from God then
we would not have need of each other as the body of Christ.

Some have different giftings in the body of Christ.

One could have the gift of faith while another God uses to
bring healing so that we are not to say
we have no need of others and can do it all on our own.

God used the prayers of the church to deliver Peter out of prison.

Acts 12:5 Peter was therefore kept in prison, but constant prayer was offered to God for him by the church.

Perhaps you need to go to others and let them show the love of God in Christ through their prayers for you.

Oh Lord, like the ones on the forum...? Can I just be punched in the face instead?

I'd rather have one person WITH FAITH pray for me, FOR MY GOOD ONLY!!!!!!!, than fifty religious people who think their piety will impress God.

The bottom line is, if you're praying and not getting any answers, you are doing something very wrong.

You know...your attitude is all wrong.
God could use a child to pray for you and He will move
because you have faith not in the one praying but in your God and
His ability to see your heart humbled before Him enough to ask
others to pray for you.

God resist the proud, even as they are denouncing others who are not
as spiritual as they are and do not have enough "faith".

God looks at the heart so make sure your heart is humble and
that you have not made something called "faith" your god.

Faith is a person not a thing..
Faith is belief that God is not a liar and that He will do what He said
He would do if we humble ourselves and believe and trust that God can
use even a jack-ass to speak to a man His words of wisdom or
a person on this forum that prays with a pure heart .

God can use anyone on this forum to pray for you if you have humbled
yourself and asked for prayer not based on how spiritual or
full of faith someone is but in the fact that God gives grace to the humble
and can use anyone to pray for you.

I'm not going to argue with you.

You should have faith in that what you are asking FOR will be granted. Have you read the Bible? Mark 11:22-24.

Faith is actually just a word for trust, belief, certainty or persuasion. You have faith in all kinds of things. You have faith you sit in a chair and it will support you. You have faith the sun will rise tomorrow. You have faith you will wake up tomorrow (hopefully). That is all that the word faith means. Let's not get overly religious about it.

Look up the word Pistis in the Greek.

I'm not here to argue. You can have no faith that your prayer will be answered all you like. It's your life, do whatever you like.

I would never ask for someone here to pray for me. If God moves on someone and so forth, that's great! I know there are a few good souls here who have their hearts in the right place. :)

But I don't ask for prayer and often times, it doesn't do anything anyway. Is it because I am doubting? Probably. I don't have much faith in people anymore.

Father in Jesus name I lift my brother in Christ up to you and
I ask that you would deliver him from all evil, lead him into all
of Your truth and fill him with Your Holy Spirit of love, truth,
peace, joy, wisdom and strength to live the life of Christ.
In Jesus name I pray.

Here's some examples of one believer praying for others (Eph 1:17-18, 3:16-19, Phi 1:9-12) and many joining in prayer with results (Acts 4:11). Also, "Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much." James 5:16

I tried asking for prayer but I didn't feel entirely comfortable doing it. I can't go against what I feel. I suppose I'll just wait for a possible change in attitude.

Romans 15:30
James 5:13-14

were the best examples, I saw, of it being ok to ask for prayer...but at the same time, I'm not entirely convinced. there are verses that say we should not be a burden to one another and the disciples were human...I really doubt that they were perfect and never made mistakes (when the one begs for prayers seems a flaw to me..)...

The verse you posted, tturt, to me, states that we SHOULD pray for one another but it doesn't say we should ask. jesus didn't ask for anything, people just gave. now, we're not perfect like jesus but...we do need to try to model ourselves after Him..

This issue reminds me of verses like:

And when I was with you and was in need, I did not burden anyone, for the brothers who came from Macedonia supplied my need. So I refrained and will refrain from burdening you in any way.
2 Corinthians 11:9

Now, this is clearly about housing and food, to me, but at the same time...need is need, whatever the need may be...prayer or physical. to me, I feel as though I shouldn't burden people with my needs...
