  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Is it wrong that I keep Shabbat and do not "go to church" on Sunday?

I will put my laws into their minds, and write them on their hearts, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
Why do you assume that "my laws" are "the law"?

That reminds me of something that was said to Peter before he went to visit Cornelius.

Acts 11:9
“The voice spoke from heaven a second time, ‘Do not call anything impure that God has made clean.’

I am hesitant to make any really definitive statements on what we are discussing (the letter and the Spirit of the Law), because I know that those who present themselves as teachers of such things will be held more accountable for what they disseminate.

James 3:1
"There should not be many teachers among you, my brethren, but you should know that we will incur greater judgment,"

Having said that, I have understood Messiah's being forsaken as the penalty for sin, as relating to the letter of the law being fulfilled or done away with (abolished). This is where the curse of the law was dealt with as He cried,"Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani" (Matthew 27:46).

2 Corinthians 5:21
"For he who had not known sin made himself to become sin in your place, that we would become the righteousness of Yah in him."

But, as we know, He was justified and death could not hold Him and the Ruach raised Him up. That same Holy Breath of Yah has breathed into us and we have been raised up with Him.

Acts 2:24
“But God raised him and he destroyed the destructions of Sheol because it was not possible for him to be held captive in Sheol.”

Because of this, we may walk in the blessings of the Law, as we have it written upon our hearts

John 6:63
"The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you--they are full of the Spirit and life."

1 Corinthians 15:45
Thus also it is written: “Adam the first man was a living soul; the last Adam - The Life Giver Spirit."

Amen.

There is no such thing as "the Spirit of the Law" from a biblical perspective. That term is nowhere to be found. (as I understand it)

Exegesis - the author and his readers would have known the definition.

Whereas making-stuff-up-eisegesis would see Jeremiah's text and start "making stuff up"

Paul was that said that we need not to worry about days?? if sabbath keeping was so important he would have said: do not worry about days but keep the sabbath...
Problem solved.

Gal 4 -- Paul condemned observance of even one pagan holy day.
Rom 14 - Paul defended observance of all the Bible holy days of Lev 23.

1 Cor 7:19 Paul said "what matters is KEEPING the Commandments of God"
Specifically that moral law of God where "the 5th commandment is the first commandment with a promise" Eph 6:2

No wonder Paul preached the Gospel "every Sabbath" to both Jews and gentiles Acts 18:4

No wonder even the Gentiles were request Paul to preach the Gospel again to them "the next Sabbath" Acts 13

No wonder BOTH sides of the classic Sunday vs Bible-Sabbath debate have agreed that all TEN of the TEN Commandments still apply even to Christians.

Problem solved.

I am glad these Sunday sources all affirm the Ten Commandments for Christians.

I was thinking about Romans 7:14
"For we know that The Written Law is spiritual but I am carnal and I am sold to sin."

So this verse says "The Written Law is spiritual"...hmmm. of course, it came straight from the Creator. So what happened to us...we became carnal. But, a Way was provided for us to have what is spiritual, written upon our hearts.

Thanks for the clarification, but let's consider the context. Earlier in the chapter we find this. My commentary below.

Romans 7:6
But now, by dying to what once bound us, we have been released from the law so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit, and not in the old way of the written code.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This better indicates the change that has taken place. There is a release from the old way and serving in a new way. We died to what once bound us (the law) and are now free from the old way of the written code. We are guided now by the Spirit not by the law, which we have been released from.
Therefore, it makes no sense that "the law", which we have died to and been released from would be written on our hearts. We are to serve in a new way. (the Spirit) Not the old way. (the written code)
When for example the bible says, let nobody judge you about sabbath days.. why add to the plain interpretation of the bible and add second intentions there and say that is other sabbath days and not the normal too?
In romans 14 he says that one person esteems one day, the other not, everyone just do it for the lord, the one who holds a day and the one who do not.
If he kept the sabbath is because he was a jew too.
It may if we illustrate it as a two-sided coin with a heads (blessing) and a tails (curse) side. And we understand that we died to the tails side since, through Yah's providence, the coin has landed on heads. So tails is done away with and we get to enjoy the blessings! So, it is the same Law (coin) with two sides.
The coin is out of circulation; outdated, obsolete.
Of possible value to coin collectors. Do you collect stamps too?
Hebrews 8:7, 13
7 For if there had been nothing wrong with that first covenant, no place would have been sought for another.
13 By calling this covenant “new,” he has made the first one obsolete; and what is obsolete and outdated will soon disappear.
Well, those are the most valuable ones huh.
And He did say this:
"Therefore anyone who sets aside one of the least of these commands and teaches others accordingly will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven."
Matthew 5:19
Nothing wrong with striving for heavenly treasure
Which commands are the least? I would be happy to suggest one.
Matthew 22:37
"Yeshua said to him, “You shall love THE LORD JEHOVAH your God from all your heart and from all your soul and from all your power and from all your mind.”
We know this is the greatest...which do you think is least?
If he was talking about the law, I would say the Sabbath.
But that's not what he's talking about.
Many think he is exalting the law in this passage.
I see him deconstructing it.
The least commands are probably found in his "You have heard that it was said... But I tell you..." statements. Which treat the law as hearsay. Not sure why he would call his commands least. Curious though.
Gal 4 -- Paul condemned observance of even one pagan holy day.
Paul isn't talking to pagans in Galatians. Paul is addressing Jews in the Church that are confused by both their traditions and the Judaizers demanding adherence to the law of Moses.
