They didn't use the phrase "work out" the way we use it. For that matter, it's only an English-language colloquialism even for us.

In context, Paul is telling Timothy, rather, to work "in" his salvation, to be doing the "good work" (see Ephesians) that was set out in advance for him to do.

The Bible also says, "create for yourselves a new heart."

And no, Paul isn't crazy. He's remarkable, far from crazy.

In present day english it would be:- live as a Christian.

Do you do the things Christians do, ie follow the 10 commandments.

It depends on how one defines it. To me salvation isn't only a ticket to heaven. Salvation is also about overcoming sin and worldliness throughout our lifetime. So when it comes to that aspect of salvation, working out your salvation makes more sense.

Remember when it comes to salvation, Jesus said quite a lot about our lives here on earth, rather than limiting it to going to heaven after we die.

There are a lot of people who say a lot of things. Simply saying something doesn't make it right. No matter who is saying it or how many are saying it. You've already found a part of the bible that apparently makes you question Paul's sanity, yet Paul supposedly is the author of "faith alone". Notice also that it does merely say "work out your own salvation", but "work out your own salvation with fear and trembling". Paul is also the one who said:

Rom 11:22 Therefore consider the goodness and severity of God: on those who fell, severity; but toward you, goodness, if you continue in His goodness. Otherwise you also will be cut off.

Not everything people say is true. You're beginning to see that.

Well who wrote it? The sweet sweet holy Spirit and Hes not crazy. Another way to look at it is at some point I must take my eyes of everyone else, read His word and get to know Him. I work out my not yours nor anyone elses but my own salvation. Gods not going to hold me accountable to what some believer said as in OSAS or you can lose your salvation or gifts are real or gifts are dead. You just go to Church on Sat no its Sun on and on. Its the truth I have received and work that out. There are things that can be sin for me but not for you.

Allot of this is meat. So we listen which is wise but we must find that truth for our selfs. Im not good with words but.. I think this makes sense.. duh to me hello! haha

Most people that are NOT dispensational , do believe that Paul is crazy and do seem , will never believe that Paul taught or believed in OSAS ;

I never meant that Paul was crazy and many do believe that Paul taught CIRCUMCISION and preached a KINGDOM MESSAGE which he never DID .

Phil 1:6 reads Having conference of this samr thing , that the ONE having begun a good work in you will accomplished it until the DAY OF CHRIST .

Then in verse 10, In order to TEST the things that are DIFFERING in order that you may be pure and BLAMESS for the DAY CHRIST '

I believe what Paul wrote in 1 Cor 3:6 , that if ANYONE knows what Paul , PLANTED , and understand what they are ,then all will be a better witness ,

Hello there,

The 'working out' of salvation, is the working out of what God has 'worked in', on the basis of the finished work of Christ. It is 'standing', 'withstanding' and 'wrestling' on the basis of the standing we have before God 'in Christ Jesus'. Living in the light of what has been accomplished in Christ Jesus for us, which is summed up in the first chapter of Ephesians, verses 3-14, on the basis of Romans 5:12-8:39.

Living in thanksgiving and praise for the mercy and grace of God, who has forgiven us for all our sins, and has placed us in Christ Jesus, and imputed His righteousness to us, that we may stand before Him, holy and without blame. That He has accepted us in Christ Jesus, and given to us the spirit of sonship, whereby we can call Him, 'Father'. As His Sons, we have an inheritance in Christ Jesus, and are also, corporately, God's own inheritance in heavenly places, where all the spiritual blessings we have been given in Christ Jesus will be enjoyed during the coming age.

On this truth, in Christ Jesus, we are to 'stand', and 'withstand' any influence that would either take from our freedom, or cause us to walk in an unworthy manner. We are to serve God as 'Sons' instead of 'Servants', and live in wonder, love and praise, worshipping God truly 'in spirit' and 'in truth', moment by moment.
