This is the will of God, that as many men as possible be saved."And this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all those he has given me, but raise them up at the last day." John 6:39
I don't believe that explaining the 10 commandments is embellishing them, but if you do, OK.But my statement was about the ten commandments delivered in ancient times long before Jesus' earthly presence. It seems to me that by changing what I said you've embellished it with anachronistic ideas.
Amen! It's by His grace, not our works. Many people would rather it says this,
"And this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all those who have chosen me, but raise them up at the last day." John 6:39
That's some avatar you have there.Amen! It's by His grace, not our works.
I'm agreeing with scripture. That's some avatar you have there.
I gave me a good giggle.
Because you're responding to a calvinist and agreeing with him.
By his beliefs, if 5 men were drowing, Jesus would decide which 2 to save and let the other 3 drown. Jesus would NOT save all 5.
I hope you know this.
I don't understand the above and it doesn't matter.
But every book in the N.T. was written to believers.
Yep, God's Grace is awesome power to overcome:Is it possible or not to keep the 10 commandments?
If it's not possible to keep the commandments, why do Jesus and also Paul say we are to keep the commandments?
John 14:15
"If you love Me, you will keep My commandments."
John 14:21
He who has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me; and he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and will disclose Myself to him.”
John 15:10
If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love; just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love.
Matthew 5:19
Whoever then annuls one of the least of these commandments, and teaches others to do the same, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever keeps and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
Matthew 19:17
And He said to him, “Why are you asking Me about what is good? There is only One who is good; but if you wish to enter into life, keep the commandments.”
1 Corinthians 7:19
Circumcision is nothing, and uncircumcision is nothing, but what matters is the keeping of the commandments of God.
1 Timothy 6
13 I charge you in the presence of God, who gives life to all things, and of Christ Jesus, who testified the good confession before Pontius Pilate, 14 that you keep the commandment without stain or reproach until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ,
Did I say anything about Catholic? So you're saying, as a Catholic, that we are not required to follow the 10 commandments???
For now, in this life, lots of people do that.God's word isn't the lunch buffet at Golden Coral. We don't get to pick and choose.
If you read what I have written you haven't seen anything that says it's okay to do those things. So you're saying, as a Catholic, that we are not required to follow the 10 commandments???
No where have I gave the indication that it was okay to do any of the things which God bans in the 10, but the 10 is part of the Law which brings death. So you're saying, as a Catholic, that we are not required to follow the 10 commandments???
"for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God," Romans 3:23
Many people would rather it says this,
"And this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all those who have chosen me, but raise them up at the last day." John 6:39
Our predestination is intimately a part of our salvation however.
Romans 8, in the YLT version uses fore-appoint for predestine.
29 because whom He did foreknow, He also did fore-appoint, conformed to the image of His Son, that he might be first-born among many brethren;
30 and whom He did fore-appoint, these also He did call; and whom He did call, these also He declared righteous; and whom He declared righteous, these also He did glorify.
Romans 8 in the amplified version,
29 For those whom He foreknew [of whom He was aware and loved beforehand], He also destined from the beginning [foreordaining them] to be molded into the image of His Son [and share inwardly His likeness], that He might become the firstborn among many brethren.
30 And those whom He thus foreordained, He also called; and those whom He called, He also justified (acquitted, made righteous, putting them into right standing with Himself). And those whom He justified, He also glorified [raising them to a heavenly dignity and condition or state of being].
Ephesians 1 in the YLT
3 Blessed [is] the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who did bless us in every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ,
4 according as He did choose us in him before the foundation of the world, for our being holy and unblemished before Him, in love,
5 having foreordained us to the adoption of sons through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will,
6 to the praise of the glory of His grace, in which He did make us accepted in the beloved,
And in the amplified version,
Ephesians 1
3 May blessing (praise, laudation, and eulogy) be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah) Who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual (given by the Holy Spirit) blessing in the heavenly realm!
4 Even as [in His love] He chose us [actually picked us out for Himself as His own] in Christ before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy (consecrated and set apart for Him) and blameless in His sight, even above reproach, before Him in love.
5 For He foreordained us (destined us, planned in love for us) to be adopted (revealed) as His own children through Jesus Christ, in accordance with the purpose of His will [because it pleased Him and was His kind intent]—
The Sabbath Day is NOT for any believer in New Testament times. The Lord's Day is for Christians which is the First Day Sunday
I do agree with the above.
The Sabbath commandment has always confused me, however.
It IS one of the 10 commandments which God specifically gave to us who believe in God, but it's a ceremonial law and the ceremonial law has been abolished...
How is it a ceremonial law, it was instituted at Creation before the fall, same as marriage
Sabbath keeping with all it's rules and regulations, was part of a covenant with Israel (Exodus 16:23, 29; 31:12-18; 35:1-3; Leviticus 19:30; 23:2-3, 32; Numbers 15:32-36; 28:1-10; 29:39-40; I Chronicles. 23:30-31; II Chronicles 31:2-4; Isaiah 1:13; Amos 8:5; Nehemiah 10:31) that is not binding on Christians under the New Covenant.are Christians required to keep the Fourth Commandment? If so, please show where in the New Testament this is taught?
Were not the 10 part of the Mosaic law?
Were not those that Jesus spoke to in Matthew 5 Jews, who are under the Law?
Allow the Holy Spirit to live within me, to change me and form me in God's image. By surrendering to God's Spirit, that Spirit teaches us and guides us to love. If we allow the HS to guide us in love, how can there be any thought of harming another person.
How do you keep the Sabbath?
