If you're closely blood related, then I wouldn't go for it. If you're only slightly blood related, then it really doesn't matter. Many of us are related (some would say all of us are, if we're all descended from Adam and Eve), but it's not close enough to matter. I mean, I'm technically blood related to a guy I went to high school with, but it's like our great-grandmothers were cousins, which is far enough apart that it wouldn't have been a no-no if we'd gotten together.

I heard somewhere a while ago that in Canada the only cousins you can legally marry would be your third cousin and down from there(fourth, etc..)

this is only hearsay though, I can't be certain of what the laws really are.
It is legal to marry your first cousin in Canada.

Here in the US one of our Presidents married a relative of his, Franklin Roosevelt he married the niece of his fith Cousin (Theodore Roosevelt, who was also a US President). Just some interesting facts about our Country's leaders that is on topic with this thread.
