This is your first problem. Stating that it is "...absolutely necessary for the preservation of human life...".
As if God were not in control. Maybe a little more thought upon this statement would be profitable for you.

"

“My religious beliefs teach me to feel as safe in battle as in bed. God has fixed the time of my death. I do not concern myself with that, but to be always ready whenever it may overtake me. That is the way all men should live, and all men would be equally brave.”

Rahab was counted as being righteous for lying to the Canaanite guards who were searching for the Israelite spies.

This is not correct.
Try to find bible commentaries where wise men state that she was actually rewarded for the lying part. I'll wait.

Let's go one further. Peter in fear lied to the girl. Was he rewarded? He was not. He sinned. Just like Rahab.

Rahab was commended for her faith, ie she believed in the God that protected the Israelites, that He is (Hebrews 11:6) the God of heaven and earth, the Creator. She feared Him... It was for her a-non Israelite, not yet in covenant with the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob...the beginning of wisdom..Proverbs 1:7

I think that God judges all, and we may feel we do not sin in a situation, but we would be a bias judge for ourselves. T guard and protect life is good, and we have the scriptures to tell us all things about Gods ways of heaven, for us to do here on earth, because Jesus Christ, did preserve life, for ever, and that is the way, the truth, the life, surely on a Christian scriptures theology forum, we can acknowledge this is the way, and there is no other way in ?

Jesus had a thorough mission to overcome the world, so we can absolutely conclude that this involves all situations, and that there are none left out, in fact we are to overcome the world EVEN as Jesus Christ overcame, so can we do a different way, or it is testified to us over and over again, that there is no other way, and the words of the testimony make sure f that, and that, that is their purpose ?

John 10:1 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber.

John 10:15 As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep.

John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Revelation 3:21 To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.

Hey everyone, why do you suppose I am in a place that does not mind showing itself crooked, and yet calls itself Christian ? Because the crooked things have to be made straight.

Here is the testimony.

By faith the Israelites passed through the red sea, the Egyptians drowned in the sea, ( no faith) and by faith Rahab did not perish with those who believed not, for receiving the Hebrew spies.

Now look to those SAME Hebrews, who God rebuked the red sea for, who were led by God, saved from their enemies, redeemed, and their enemies drowned, and the Hebrews believed the words of the Lord, then they SOON forgot His works, did not wait for Gods counsel ( like this testimony is speaking) and they then tempted God, and God sent leanness into their hearts...

Hebrews 11:29 By faith they passed through the Red sea as by dry land: which the Egyptians assaying to do were drowned.
30 By faith the walls of Jericho fell down, after they were compassed about seven days.
31 By faith the harlot Rahab perished not with them that believed not, when she had received the spies with peace.

Psalm 106:9 He rebuked the Red sea also, and it was dried up: so he led them through the depths, as through the wilderness.
10 And he saved them from the hand of him that hated them, and redeemed them from the hand of the enemy.
11 And the waters covered their enemies: there was not one of them left.
12 Then believed they his words; they sang his praise.
13 They soon forgat his works; they waited not for his counsel:
14 But lusted exceedingly in the wilderness, and tempted God in the desert.
15 And he gave them their request; but sent leanness into their soul.

The book of Hebrews continues, about the Hebrews, about their judges, about all including Rahab, that their ways were not perfect, they did not receive the promise, as the way of Jesus Christ is the perfect truth of no lie, no other has salvation. ( Acts 4:12.)

Hebrews 11:39 And these all, having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise:
40 God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect.

Jude confirms the testimony regarding how the Lord had once saved the Hebrews, out of the land of Egypt, but after destroyed them as they did not believe in the Lord....

Jude 1:5 I will therefore put you in remembrance, though ye once knew this, how that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed them that believed not.

So everything anyone did in the old testament/covenant, is named an old testament/covenant for a reason, because it all vanished away.

We have nobody on this thread showing a singular instant of lying from Jesus Christ, or any of his apostles once they receive the Holy ghost ( the SPIFIT OF TRUTH. 1 John 5:6 ) of transformation, we have Rahab as everyone's best shot at showing a wrong witness as true, but that is not true, the faithful witness is shown below...

Hebrews 8:13 In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away.

Jude 1:20 But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,
21 Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.

1 John 5:6 This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth.

Revelation 1:5 And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,

Is that what James was referring to in James 2?

”In the same way, was not Rahab the harlot also justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out by another way?“

You should change your profile name, it’s deceiving.
Why didn’t you post James 2:25?

”In the same way, was not Rahab the harlot also justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out by another way?“
‭‭James‬ ‭2‬:‭25‬ ‭NASB1995‬‬

How would this have played out if she had not lied to the Canaanite guards?

Why is lying a sin?

”“Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” And He said to him, “ ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the great and foremost commandment. The second is like it, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets.”“
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭22‬:‭36‬-‭40‬ ‭NASB1995‬‬

Lying is a sin when it is done deceitfully but when it is done out of compassion and mercy it isn’t. When it’s done to save the life of another it isn’t a sin.

Like an example for people arguing for this point is when thr Naxis invaded many Households where people were hiding Jews and they had a conundrum. If they said "Yes" to hiding Jews and told the truth, they and the Jew/Jews they were hiding would die. If they said "No" they would be lying yet it would preserve life. This is kind of a Grey area for me.

While it's true that the Bible teaches that lying is a sin and that people should be willing to die for their faith it doesn't have a response about this frequently stated conundrum. It would be impossible for it to talk about this direct situation because WWII began in the 1940s but it doesnt say whether or not it's ok to lie to preserve human life. You can't deny that lying is a sin but is it ALWAYS a sin is the question.

Let’s not forget about the midwives who lied to Pharaoh in order to save newborn boys. And what was God’s reaction to that lie?

”So the king of Egypt called for the midwives and said to them, “Why have you done this thing, and let the boys live?” The midwives said to Pharaoh, “Because the Hebrew women are not as the Egyptian women; for they are vigorous and give birth before the midwife can get to them.” So God was good to the midwives, and the people multiplied, and became very mighty. Because the midwives feared God, He established households for them.“

Jesus taught the difference between the letter of the law and the purpose of the law. He didn’t condemn people for pulling fallen animals out of a well on the sabbath. He didn’t condemn David’s actions of going into the temple and eating the bread that was forbidden for anyone to eat except for the Levites. His focus was mercy and compassion, not the letter of the law which is why He defined the purpose of the law which was to love God and to love others. That’s why Rahab was blessed despite her lie because it was crucial to saving the Israelite spies and the midwives who lied to Pharaoh about not killing newborn boys were also blessed. These lies were not malicious in nature they were compassionate and merciful.

Rahab was not a covenant Israelite. When God revealed Himself to Israel as the I Am, and how they should respond to Him and each other (commandments , thou shall not lie) she was not present. She heard by the report of God by what God did to those nations opposed to Him. And responded to that knowledge believing Him to be more powerful than any other god and the king of Jericho. Faith comes by hearing... she heard what He had done and believed (Joshua 2:10-11), aligning herself with this God and His people. Responding as best she knew how.
Do we tell lies when we know better? I would think not.

Throughout the OT, God was progressively revealing Himself to a people who did not know Him, until it culminated in the ultimate revelation of His Son Jesus Christ. Who is Truth.

Yes. It is always a sin. It is a lack of trust in God. We need to look to God and pray and expect good things.

I am not trying to be nonchalant about this or act like seeing someone taken away is not horrible or that I would not sin. But I will not call it other than a sin, just because I want to keep it in my back pocket for when I fail to look to and trust God.

Things only 'appear' as life or death. We don't know it is.

[2Ki 6:15-18 KJV] 15 And when the servant of the man of God was risen early, and gone forth, behold, an host compassed the city both with horses and chariots. And his servant said unto him, Alas, my master! how shall we do? 16 And he answered, Fear not: for they that [be] with us [are] more than they that [be] with them. 17 And Elisha prayed, and said, LORD, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain [was] full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha. 18 And when they came down to him, Elisha prayed unto the LORD, and said, Smite this people, I pray thee, with blindness. And he smote them with blindness according to the word of Elisha.

Jesus does not love Elisha anymore than he loves us.

Everything but the actual lie.
Protecting them. Keeping them safe. Taking them to the roof. Covering them. All up to the point of lying.

Again, there is no demonstrated fact that the midwives lied. Only what they said may appear to be impossible in your eyes. Perhaps God did speed up the births allowing the women to hide their children. We don't know. But speculating or worse, claiming they lied is not backed by scripture so I ask you to reconsider.

Protecting them, exactly. That was the “works” referred to in James 2. She couldn’t have done that without lying. The guards specifically asked her where they were. If she didn’t answer they would’ve searched the place and found them. The only option to protect them was to lie.

This is incorrect. Jesus taught that the Pharisees and Sadducees??? and other leaders had added to the law and made it against the law to do all sorts of things when none of that was true.

Rahab did not turn them in immediately. She was softening towards Jesus. That is the starting point, at least, of where she is recognized by God.
