I agree.

bod44 proclaimed that lust and masturbation are one and the same. This is just her opinion and is definitely not true and there is nothing in the bible that says that masturbation is a sin but I agree with OnlyThruHim that it could lead there.

I for one commend threeinone for her honesty and openess. She has put herself in the line of fire and I feel has defended her arguement (and mine for that matter) very well, with conviction and sincerity.

I repect everyone's opinions as much as hers or my own, I just hope none of you have put yourselves too high on a pedestal. You dont need to be "perfect" to have your arguments respected or ackowledged.

This is a tough topic..the 70+ pages of responses prove it. I think somethings were not meant to be solved by man/womankind. But as we look to the Word and pray to Heaven for answers to our questions, we look more to our Lord Jesus Christ and the more we look to Him the closer we come to God...

Debates are good as long as the Jesus is in the answer to our equation.

God Bless

Let's not get carried away now. I was not making any sweeping announcements as to how the world is. I was giving an opinion, laying down my throughts, which I will not do here anymore beyond this. Masturbating is like all the other sins we all commit all the time. You might never consider masturbating as I do, but without a doubt there is at least one sin that you commit that I would never dream of doing. It is the nature of the beast to sin......we each sin in our own way. We each have our priorities. No one here is a saint to my knowledge. I touch, God knows and He knows why and He does not punish me. Let the first one here without sin throw the first stone at me or anyone else who masturbates.

And enough of the lust...that is the exaggeration of the act.

By no means am I claiming to be sinless, or better than anyone! Quite the contrary. I was speaking to specific issues surrounding masturbation, and also porn, that many people seem to have a misconception about.

lol I think you are the one with the misconceptions. People who touch don't go out and rape. And whatever I said is equally distorted

The whole thing is ridiculous. Masturbation is a personal thing between a person and God. Two young women on here, maybe more and guys too, want to be pure for God and that is a wonderful goal. But not everybody has to do the same thing. It is not as if it is the Ten Commandments.

Exactly. We are all called along different paths, for we are all unique, and thus cannot reach God by following completely identical paths. Thus, unless something is expressly forbidden in the teachings of our Master, we should avoid trying to direct blame at each other over specific actions (or our neglect to perform certain actions), and instead should help each other on an individual basis. If, for instance, a person says that they have a serious problem with lust, masturbation may only feed that lust, and we may be wise to advise him or her to refrain from masturbating. However, that does not mean by any stretch that we should tell all people to never touch, for masturbation may be harmless or even actually serve as an aid to spiritual growth (hey, it could happen) for someone else who doesn't have the same problem with lust.

Do not think I am suggesting moral relativism (at least not in the common sense). It isn't a matter of different perspectives so much as different needs.

Hey Gukkor

you are a wise guy and I mean that in a nice way. I never thought about it until you said it...........you are absolutely right - it has served as an aid to spiritual growth for me and the situation that I am in. Interesting thought for I have grown closer to God over the last 12 or more years and I have learned much as to why I do things and how to reach to be closer even more to God.

Thank you for your words:wave:

to simplify all that I had said, I'm not judging anyone, I'm just stating what the word says, because no one is using the Bible to support their opinions! Aren't we supposed to be living by Gods word? The Bible tells us to crucify our bodily desires and affections with Christ, and we are risen with Christ to new life above our desires. Whether it be lust to touch or not, (I do think it is highly improbable to touch and not lust lol) allowing our bodily desires to control us is still a form of selfishness and Idolatry because we are putting our satisfaction in an [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse] rather than in God.
btw, for everybody that was saying that it is beneficial to relieve stress periodically, I was researching a bit, and I believe that the natural release during sleep for guys, and I have heard of girls having these "wet dreams" as God's way of letting off steam. This will happen when the system has been held back for too long. Just wanted to throw that out there!

The question is, does indulging in a bodily pleasure amount to "allowing our bodily desires to control us"?

I agree that being controlled a pleasure is dangerous, but, engaging in that pleasure does not mean one is controlled by it. If a person masturbates (or listens to pleasant music, or eats food they enjoy) only when it does not disrupt any other part of their life, it is difficult to make a case for saying they are controlled by it. It is true that a person might be controlled by it, but they can also touch only when they have the spare time and never to avoid their spouse; if they can decide not to, for whatever reason (no time), when they would like to...in short, if they keep it under control, than how does one claim that they are being controlled by it?

I'm telling you again. It is not necessary to lust to touch. I know. Maybe you lusted when you masturbated but that is not proof that everyone does. It is only proof that you do.

I repeat, it is not necessary to lust to touch. I know this for a fact. Have you ever noticed how everybody does everything different. Each person does things according to their experiences and each person's experiences are different. That is what makes life exciting. We are all different and we learn from one another.

This thread is about masturbating, not about lust. If you want to start a thread about lust, go for it. But leave it out of here. You are crashing this thread. I don't know the right word for it but that is what you are doing. Take your lust and go somewhere else.

yes and no. I was meaning if someone masturbates to relieve sexual tension, they are allowing the sexual tension of their body control them rather than reckoning themselves dead to their affections and desires and crying out to God for help. Read romans chapters 5 through 10 and Galatians 5. It opened my eyes alot among other scriptures. And my body needs food to survive, my mind needs pleasant music to remain sane, but sex is hardly a necessity. God designed us with a drive but how many Godly men and women gave their lives to celibacy and they never masturbated usually preached against it. See, lust is in the greek: a desire for something unattainable or forbidden. If I want an [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse] and I'm not married, I need deliverance from God because anything beyond sex with my partner(Gods design for the sexual system) is wrong. Especially if I'm married I have no business doing that because God wouldn't have us get married or wait til marriage to have sex if the [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse] wasn't supposed to be saved as a beautiful part in marriage. Whats the difference with having sex with someone or something(toys, etc. ick...) other than my wife for the purpose of enjoying an [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse] or masturbating for the pleasure of an [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse]? Nobody loves their hand that much that they can use the excuse of being in love. Ick. The definition of fornication is unlawful sec or sex with anything or anyone other than my husband or wife. How does masturbating not fall in either of those categories? You see the beauty of sex is the climax, the [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse] which is supposed to be a beautiful thing we only have with our partner which makes us love eachother and want eachother more because they are the only way we get that wonderful thing. Instead its just another way to get off. God help us to save such beautiful design of God for our marriage partners alone.

Ahhh, I get it. This is where our primary disagreement is. I don't see sex as being about the [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse] (or, at least, not about mine). I see it as a tool one uses to express love. On it's own, I don't ascribe much value to it. I can also imagine a completely satisfying sexual experience in which I don't [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse] at all, but devote myself to wholly to my partner.

Lacking the emotional connection, I don't see simply orgasming as adultury/fornication, because it's little more than a physical sensation. More pleasant than stubbing one's toe....but still, not all that different.

thats exactly what I meant. It is a tool God designed to use as a pleasureful experience between two people that love eachother regardless of an [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse]. But, why do we save sex for marriage if the best part of it(the [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse]) can be done whenever and however we want? I don't want to fight but until somebody shows scripture that proves their point I'm not going to even consider masturbation as anything other than a sin. The Bible says it up and down and I've given lots of scripture. I live by the Bible and thats what all christians should be doing. I'm not promoting myself I'm just defending the word of God. Masturbation as a norm has always been a worldly thing and in the last while has become the norm in society so therefore now christians start saying its ok. In the world not of it, be ye separate. etc. I'd rather do what the Bible says than what atheist scientists says.

I think that you have to prove that it is a sin. You have not done so except to say it is lust and there is no proof that it is lust. I have read your posts and I have not seen any scripture in this thread to prove your point. I can't prove that it is not a sin. I just believe that it is not a sin. I do believe however that it is a good thing to avoid if you can but not because it is a sin. If you want to go further, you must prove that it is a sin if you want to continue saying all the things that you do.

It doesn't have to be a sin in order for it to be something some of us might want to avoid. But you do have to prove that it is a sin if you expect everybody to stop or if you expect everybody to believe it is a sin.

Eyes not seeing, ears not hearing. I'm not the only one that thinks these things. Every other christian I've ever known believes these things. I've been to many many churches too! You are choosing not to see masturbation as either lust or fornication and thats why the scriptures aren't proving anything to you. I'm not proving my opinion I was trying to prove the word of God, and if someone showed me otherwise in the scriptures I would believe them because God's word is truth. I'm done with this subject. You guys know my thoughts, what the Bible says, and I guess I'm just a fanatic! lol God bless you all, no hard feelings, I love you all as brothers and sisters in Christ.

Eyes not seeing, ears not hearing.....dear bod, you are not seeing or hearing either. How I wish you were. There is absolutely nothing in the bible that says masturbating is not a sin. And there is absolutely nothing in the bible that says masturbating is a sin. Masturbating is not mentioned in the bible. There is a story about Onan who was made to sleep with his dead brother's wife to give her children but the children would not be his by rights but his brothers children by rights. So he wouldn't allow his seed inside of her. But he wasn't masturbating. God killed him but not for that reason. Genesis 38: 6 - 10
That's it, not the word, nothing

In truth, the act of masturbating is not a sin. Lust is a sin and lust is attached to masturbating. So masturbating is not a sin. Lust is a sin. So lust is the thing to talk about

So when lust is used in masturbating, the sin of lust is being committed and the real issue is how to stop lust. If we could stop lust, the majority of masturbating would likely stop.

Interesting...........any takers.

One thing for sure is that the answer isn't to separate ourselves from all possible sources of lust (sexual or otherwise) and live in the mountains. This isn't conquering our lust, this is running from it. We can't deny pleasures entirely, but at the same time we have to learn to control them and prevent lust for them from developing.

As for how exactly to do that, you got me there. I'm leaning toward the likelyhood that it's (again) not a uniform mechanical process, but an active experience that's unique to the individual.
