This question is so Old Testament! (everything is external and cold)

the New Testament reality is that God (the Holy Spirit) lives in you and you dont need to ask such questions as IS THIS A SIN etc etc

You dont need to look at anything external or anybody!

bottom line is;
If you feel its not right for you (you are convicted) dont do it

Its that simple!

So Gods Truth is whatever you think it is. So you decide instead of God. That must make you a god if you can decide Truth.

This is interesting, so sin is up to the person. So according to your way of thinking, for one country to carry out genocide against a group of people is ok. Because they feel it is ok. I can hit you in the head with a 2x4 if I feel it is ok.

We need to let everyone out of prison because they were doing what they felt was right.

Please tell me scriptures that say we decide what truth is.

no!
... I should have said ... 1st, that since there is no clear scripture on this matter
(I agree 1st start with the word of God, The Bible)
then is a matter to let the Spirit guide you (if you are convicted its sin) thats what living in the Spirit is all about (Paul writes about it alot)

you have taken what I said way out of context!

Its not up to me it up to the Holy Spirit! I never said sin is up to the person, that is not scriptural but LIVING IN THE SPIRIT is scriptural, what do you think Paul was writing about in Romans 14 about weaker brother

Rom 14;1 Him that is weak in the faith receive ye, [but] not to doubtful disputations
Rom 14;2 For one believeth that he may eat all things: another, who is weak, eateth herbs
Rom 14;3 Let not him that eateth despise him that eateth not; and let not him which eateth not judge him that eateth: for God hath received him.
Rom 14;4 Who art thou that judgest another man's servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall be holden up: for God is able to make him stand
Rom 14;5 One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day [alike]. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind
Rom 14;6 He that regardeth the day, regardeth [it] unto the Lord; and he that regardeth not the day, to the Lord he doth not regard [it]. He that eateth, eateth to the Lord, for he giveth God thanks; and he that eateth not, to the Lord he eateth not, and giveth God thanks.

Its the Spirit that leads us to all truth, its a real living relationship with Jesus not a distant cold one way thing with the Bible.

There's no sin in the heart because I'm not thinking about sex. After all, it's totally possible to have sex (and touch) while having no sexual thought whatsoever.

And that's what matters, right? The heart. Loopholes are great!

You still dont understand. If you have sex with your girlfriend and the whole time you think of Star Wars....you've commited physical sin. Sin with the body. You dont just sin with your heart, though you can. Anyhow...I'd like to see proof that one can have sex and not know it.

Your loophole is filled in.

I don't believe it is a sin. Everybody gets sexual pent up energy that needs a release of some sort, and if you have to do that to get rid of it, then so be it.

However, if it becomes an addiction, that's when you may need help of some sort - however, I still don't think it is a sin.

Nowhere in the Bible did God say, "Thou shalt not touch"! If one believes that God created us, he would have to be a pretty sadistic deity to give us the means of pleasuring ourselves but forbidding us to do so!

He gave us drugs also should we do those. Some people take pleasure in rape and murder should they do those too.

Also, It's called self-control, which the Bible speaks about alot. God didn't forbid us He just said wait till your married.

As long as we touch in private, whom are we harming? No one! People seem to make up stuff that they attribute to God when we have no idea what God thinks as he hasn't told us. The stuff in the Bible was written by people attributing their own social mores and prejudices to God!

Because God knows my sin. The me I trust the least is the me when I am alone. If you don't think that the Bible is God's word, we can never come to any agreement on this issue or any other.

His ways are higher than our ways, I don't have to understand why masterbating when I'm all alone is wrong. You should be very careful what you post on CF, your words could mislead young Christians and that is a very dangerous situation for both you and them.

Matthew 18:6
But if anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a large millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.

Just because something feels right, doesn't make it right.

Nearly everyone has done it, that still doesn't make it right.

I think the hardest thing to understand is that our bodies don't belong to us...at all. Not when we're single. We are simply temples of the Holy Spirit. Everything that we do and see and say and hear we subject the Holy Spirit to.

1 Corinthians 6
18Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body. 19Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.

I am very concerned with the attitude and the whole understanding of some individuals with the comments placed on this discussion about masturbation. To even suggest it isn't a sin is a very dangerous thing to do. Of course you are thinking sexual thoughts in that place, if you not you aren't human. The lust involved is the sin, the whole appeal is the fantasy and fulfillment of lust factors through self gratification. Paul taught the church at coribth some important things about the whole if it feels good trip that humanity is always on, he used a saying on them that they knew very very well, 'everything is permissable to me' ( very similar to our if it feels good do it) but warned them not to abuse their christian liberty and told them 'but not everything is beneficial' and 'i will not be mastered'. Where is the benefit of lust? is is not pure like love, don't you dear call it passionate because lust is self seeking, passion is something shared in concent. Lust is carnal self seeking, self gratifying (wot u do in the comfort of your own home is sweet as long as you don't hurt anybody.... what a joke) thats the scary thing about this sin no one gets hurt it's cool. It becomes addictive, and look you have a new master, flesh.
I hope people feel convicted when in that place because God has a high calling for people and a higher more fulfilling sexual experience for humanity it's with your marriage partner, not selling your self short for a quick fix.
I urge you all brothers and sisters be careful what you teach and proclaim as truth read the WHOLE bible systematically on your theology and you will see clearly a holy and righteous God who has talked about this issue clearly through out his word
Mat 13:41 the Son of Man will send out his angels to gather up out of his Kingdom all those who cause people to sin and all others who do evil things,

Mat 13:42 and they will throw them into the fiery furnace, where they will cry and gnash their teeth.

That's the same logic I use to wish death and hell and severe pain on people and their families that cross me, but people seem to think that's "not Christian," even though it harms nobody, because it's all in my head (and in my writings :)).

it harms you bcuz the bible says that if you have relations with any woman who is not your wife, in your mind, you are doing as much as if you are actually committing adultery

Exactly, and notice Jesus mentions cut off you hand, or your eye. Hand = actions, eye = thought life. The same as in Deuteronomy where it says to bind the Laws to your hand and put them between your eyes as a reminder.

Hassidic Jews took it literally and actually bind leather straps with scripture holders around their arm and forehead, but you get the idea. God meant use the scriptures to guide your actions AND your thought life.
