This has nothing to do with masturbation. He was killed for his disobedience of not impregnating his brother's wife and he "withdrew". He was NOT masturbating. Those who insist that masturbation is a sin need to stop trying to use this verse as "proof".

Look at Matt 1:3. Onan's "refusal to contribute" was interfering with God's plans to bring forth the Messiah. Many couples get pregnant when they try to use the withdrawal method. Onan was judged for resisting God's will in a very important matter.

Premature ejaculations and nocturnal emissions happen as a matter of course. That means our individual seed is not THAT sacred any more than the individual ovum lost by a woman each month.

Yep, and that has been pointed out over and over again, yet the Onan argument keeps getting brought up anyway. :sigh:

number one, how do you interpret "spilled it on the ground" what is IT? sperm, duh! Number 2 the lord killed the guy for wasting the seed. it is as simple as that. dont try to distort it

"Spilling seed" happens, many times, involuntarily. It was never considered a capital crime. At worst, it was considered hygienically unclean on the same order as a woman's monthly flow and conventional, married sex [see Lev 15:16-24]. Verse 18 MAY be referring to external [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse], deliberate or unintentional; to me it's unclear. If so, it shows that Onan* was the exception rather than the rule AND specific "seed" isn't as valuable as some would make it out to be.

I truly believe that a Christian's sex organs belong to God along with every other part of their body, but shedding hair and skin, discharging sperm or ova is just how these bodies were designed.

That is not a complete defense for self-stimulation, but it should lay to rest the argument concerning the "spilling" or "wasting" one's seed.

*Note: The story of Onan took place generations BEFORE this hygienic Law was given in Leviticus.

Hehe, I would be one of those guys who are justifying it. Execpt that I don't see it as wrong to begin with, so there's nothing to justify.

Here's an important point. Maybe it was wrong for you. Maybe it was too tied up to unhealthy habits, like watching porn. Just like one may say it would be a sin for an obese person to give in to temptation with sugar on the top - but you couldn't claim that it would be sinful for everyone to eat cake.

I used to be a drug addict, and God delievered me. That doesn't mean I can never have a beer again, or that it would be wrong for everyone to drink beer. It wouldn't be right for everyone, either. For some it may in fact be a sin, if they're going against what they honestly believe is right.

The new man outgrows the old, however, therefore I enjoy my beer(s) and thank the Lord for it. I also thank him for providing me with a way to... let's say exercise my sexuality without having to resort to adultery. If you for some reason can not do that with a clear conscience, don't. But be open to change, be open to living according to the Spirit instead of the letter, according to love and common sense instead of your flawed human consciousness that's been influenced and twisted by the culture you're in.

Onan wasn't killed for masterbating. He was killed for not fulfilling his duty to impregnate his brother's wife. So many people can't seem to understand that.

I still feel that touching yourself is wrong - falls under fornication in my opinion.

I think since the bible is silent on it we should be as well. In situations such as this, no one has a right to dictate rightness or wrongness, or even to ask others what you should do/believe.Seek the answer yourself. That should be between you and God. :)

That is why I usually do not even bother reading what others have to say on this issue anymore,no one has any business or AUTHORITY telling others what to do, or not do about this. I wish people would stop even asking!

Genesis 38:8-9

8Then Judah said to Onan, "Go in to your brother's wife, and perform your duty as a brother-in-law to her, and raise up offspring for your brother."
9Onan knew that the offspring would not be his; so when he went in to his brother's wife, he wasted his seed on the ground in order not to give offspring to his brother.
10But what he did was displeasing in the sight of the LORD; so He took his life also.

Some Christians believe this is condoning masturbation, since God was displeased at Onan for wasting his sperm on the ground. But further analysis indicates that he was killed by God for the "crime" of using a primitive method of birth control to avoid conceiving a child for his brother’s wife.

Leviticus 15:16-18
16Now if a man has a seminal emission, he shall bathe all his body in water and be unclean until evening.
17As for any garment or any leather on which there is seminal emission, it shall be washed with water and be unclean until evening.
18If a man lies with a woman so that there is a seminal emission, they shall both bathe in water and be unclean until evening.

In verses 16 and 17 it refers to a man's [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse] but does not contain a reference to a sexual partner. This is interpreted by some as referring to [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse] resulting from masturbation while the man is alone. Which makes sense because in verse 18 it appears to refer to a man and woman engaged in sexual intercourse.

Notice how in the above verses it doesn’t outlaw the act of masturbation but rather places rules to it. [It seems since women have no sperm to defile their cleanliness, masturbation is not only accepted but required no ramifications either] So, does this mean we (us men) have to take a shower after masturbation? No. We no longer have to follow the laws of Moses.

Now, don’t go running off to touch just yet….
There are still rules. Masturbation can still lead to sin.

Matthew 5:28

28but I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

Webster’s dictionary’s definition of “adultery”:
1. The unfaithfulness of a married person to the marriage
bed; sexual intercourse by a married man with another than
his wife, or voluntary sexual intercourse by a marrie
woman with another than her husband.
Note: It is adultery on the part of the married wrongdoer.
The word has also been used to characterize the act of
an unmarried participator, the other being married.

So, as long as I’m not married and don’t fantasize about a married women, I’ll be fine right? No.

The bible talks about sexual immorality and fornication, and how it is very wrong.

Webster’s dictionary definition of “fornication”:
1: voluntary sexual intercourse between persons not married to
each other

It is clear we are not to have sex before marriage. It is also clear that God reads (judges) our hearts, not only our actions.
Now, if we apply the same principals to pre-marital sex as what Jesus did to adultery, one performs pre-marital sex in one’s heart if you fantasize about having sex.

Thus, we are left with one conclusion: Masturbation is not a sin if you do it while not fantasizing about having sex. Think about the impending [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse] or just focus on the pleasure. A sexual aroused state of mind is mischievous and hard too tame. If you can’t control it, then don’t touch. :p

I neither approve of or disapprove of masturbation. some earlier people said that masturbation is not a sin it's the thoughts that are sin. how can this be no one ever masturbates to religious objects or any thing like that.so that would have to mean masturbation itself is a sin.

Is masturbating to your wife a sin?

Nope. This is one of the few clauses that allows one to touch while thinking of sex (with their wife of course). Others who aren't married have it a bit more difficult. They have to focus on pleasure and not sex. Hard to do, sure....impossible? No.

That's the same logic I use to support pre-marital sex. As long as one isn't thinking about sex while they're having sex, it's all right! Same with extra-marital affairs.

Also, when one thinks about it, if masturbation without mentally defiling an actual women isn't a sin, then surely masturbating to fictional characters isn't a sin either.
