Hey Melancholy interesting article, but one nit to pick was they said Jesus Christ Superstar had an afro-haired Christ, but that was Godspell. Other then that it was indeed interesting! ;)

I thought that Brian was the most accurate version of Jesus I have ever seen or heard!!

As his 'mum' said, "he's just a naughty little boy".

I think that George Harrison and his gang did a brilliant job in research of who and what Jesus was/is!

Hi tulc.

Very interesting article indeed. Glad you read it, it made some good points and echoed my feelings on certain things.

I think the afro look was described more towards the background dancers in the film than Jesus having an afro. Many of the background characters were wearing afro wigs.
I haven't seen Godspell, I've only seen clips on TV about it.
( Mel-a Jesus Christ Superstar fan:D )

I missed this programme, unfortunately.
I was kicking myself:doh:. I like Robert Beckford and have seen a couple of similar programmes that he has hosted.

Aint that the truth.................! In certain areas of fundamentalist thinking it seems that to have a sense of humour at all is a sin.....................

Not at all, it means you have a fantastic sense of humour and appreciation of the fine art that is Monty Python.

On a similar note, has anyone ever heard of the "and some cows" game? You read through the Bible aloud and, wherever possible, insert the words, "and some cows" into the sentence. Mark 4:2-3--"And he and some cows taught them many things by parables, and said unto them in his doctrine, Hearken; Behold, there went out a sower and some cows to sow..."

And so it came to pass that they laughed heartily, and verily, the Lord didst not smite them even a little bit. :)

I think it is only blasphemous for Lumberjacks while they are eating Spam. ;) I found both of those songs on Google Video where you can search for them, though I decided not to risk linking them.

OTOH, I'm guessing some people might believe this is why we post on the Liberal Theology forum. While we are at it, is going to an Argument Clinic a sin?

:D That sounds like a Far Side cartoon.
