is it a sin to drink alcohol?

What are you talking about?

Love feasts are mentioned in Jude 12 and 1 Corinthians 11
You said Timothy cut his coke with water in the Bible, and Justin Martyr left the orgy to explain to Ceasar that they were not having drunk love fests because the wine wasn't strong enough to get drunk, it only kept them from getting dehydrated and the love feasts were started by Jesus and Mary Magdeline who conceived the grandfather of the guy who wrote the DiVinci DeCode.

I asked you to show where this stuff is in the bible, and all you come back with is Jude? You didn't explain how many people were involved in the first orgy trying to get drunk with Jesus on wine that was cut too much so Ceasar could excuse the love feasts as non-drunken orgies and Justin Martyr returned to the party with Ceasar's blessings.....Ceasar probably tagged along when he found out they were only orgies and not drunken orgies, but of course he went in disguise.

I grew up where Christians didn't drink unless it was to take communion. My pastor's wife told me that I was barren because I took time away from my husband to visit my mom. I knew what fear of sin was. I knew the inadvertent consequence of sin well before I even dared try to be rebellious to my Father in Heaven. A good long part of my life was spent resentful and fearful of my Father in Heaven.

It wasn't till many years later that I could say shame on her for accusing My Heavenly Father of making me barren. Not fair to me and not fair to HIM.

Awwww....a young couple at church recently married, finest young couple, perfect citizens from good families, like angels...it appears she is unable to carry a child, several miscarriages. When you influence somebody to become a Christian, you are not barren. God has special rewards for you. You sure have been a blessing to me and God rewards all service done for Him

A good pastor will tell you that all things are gifts from God, but can become sinful if abused.

Sex: a gift from God
Abuse it: it's sinful (lust, porno, adultery, etc)

Delicious drinks: a good gift from God
Abuse it: drunkenness, abuse, addiction, etc

Anyone who says having a drink is a sin, is a legalist.

Anybody who says anybody who says having a drink is a sin is a legalist, is a legalist....so while you are calling others legalists, you are in reality being legalistic against them, trying to make rules againt them. Your word is not God's word. God says be holy. If you are not being holy, you are a permissivist. When God says be holy, and you say I'm having a drink, you are toasting your own accusation of calling God a legalist.

Excellent analogy! Just as:

Food: Delicious, nourishing.
Gluttony: Obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease.

A good pastor will tell you that all things are gifts from God, but can become sinful if abused.

Sex: a gift from God
Abuse it: it's sinful (lust, porno, adultery, etc)

Delicious drinks: a good gift from God
Abuse it: drunkenness, abuse, addiction, etc

Anyone who says having a drink is a sin, is a legalist.
Radiator fluid is a delicious drink the same as whatever alcohol you think is delicious. There is nothing nourishing about alcohol, it's poison.....so why not just drink delicious radiator fluid?

I agree seems to me people don't want to face that reality so it is easier to call it grape juice. That is not what scripture says and it is wrong to change scripture, but I guess if it helps you sleep at night. Not that it is a big deal Jesus drank we are allowed to drink we have freedom in Christ to drink but not be drunks it really isn't that hard of a concept to grasp.
sounds like the only thing you are trying to grasp is some suds and you won't let go for nothing...it's an idol and you are free to hold it as long as you can

I went to church last night at a different church and was a little confused about alcohol because jesus drank. well I asked the preacher and he said it was not a sin to drink and that it was only a sin to get drunk. well I went to call my preacher at my church and he said that it was a sin to drink and that jesus didn't drink real alcohol. well I looked at a bible verse and it said "do not get drunk off wine, for that is debauchery. but be filled with the spirit" that was English standard version. another one said for us not to drink. so I'm confused. jesus said to drink and not get drunk but then he says for us not to drink. and plus, a preacher told me it wasn't a sin. and I listen to a lot of Christian bands and one of my favorite is called the almost and they all drink beer. another one of my favorites is these hearts. they drink beer too. and the devil wears prada. they drink too. and I think the lead singer of skillet does too. so what's up? is it a sin? I was raised and taught that it was a sin but obviously i'm getting proved wrong.

What a weak testimony of the power of God in your life in Christ's resurrection when you have to sit there sipping alcohol claiming you are being like Jesus and if others drink too much and kill people on the highways that's their problem and you can just sit there and have a drink and forget their problems. Wonderful how Christians can be like that and be free in Christ to be that way. No wonder most of the world says Christians are hypocrites

add-

A recent poll revealed that 81% of all Catholics now drink and 64% of all Protestants. These shocking figures keep mounting higher each month. The permissive attitude toward social drinking is fast creeping even into the most conservative, evangelical church circles.

an even higher percent watch movies with sinfull sexual immorality portrayed -which Is named as SIN.... lol and some say to call the western church lukewarm is an unfair accusation... go figure they would say that.

so again-the spirit of mr Wilkinsons message-i fully agree with.

None of that garbage goes on in my Christian circles. We handle people involved in those things Biblically, Biblical church discipline. Anybody in my church or churches we fellowship with who is seen drinking or drugging or fornicating is probably going to lose their church membership at least temporarily until repentance is evident .

Sadly, holiness is missing in most Christian lives and churches today. People know what being holy means for the Lolly Llama, but when it comes to Christians being holy it means "lets have a drink and toast our freedom because we have no rules in Christ"

show in the Bible where it says "we have freedom in Christ to sip suds and taste wine", and Jesus never got more than ___% drunk, whatever percentage of drunk you think is still sober.
All things are lawful for the Christian, but not all things are beneficial. Someone who is filled with the Holy Spirit may drink, but will have no desire to get drunk. Many Christians have a glass of wine with dinner or a hotdog and a beer at a baseball game. It is not for you to decide that is wrong.

It is not even biblical to require membership into a church. That is religious nonsense.

That's you, not the Bible, talking. I don't follow most Christians, I follow Jesus and He said I'm to deny myself and take up my cross and follow Him, not take up a beer and follow Him.

The Bible says be holy, be sober, in all manner of conversation. That covers at baseball games. If you don't want the Bible telling you what is right or wrong, don't blame me.

I think you already know that one can have a single drink and they are still sober.

In acts they got saved and were added to the church. They counted the number added. They were not members of the church until they were added to the church.

What do you think denying yourself and taking up your cross means, exactly?

Nonsense. People are "added" to the church the moment they are saved. THAT IS THE MEMBERSHIP. Salvation.
