Is humor part of your marriage?

There is humour in my marriage. Just that sometimes a bit more frequent then my wife would like sometimes! (and no the cut above my eye is not where she hit me!)

My wife and I cant help BUT laugh! Linda loves to play practical jokes on me, and I love making her and my son Ross laugh when I do impressions...

on that note, I am pretty quick when it come to making up lyrics to songs that we listen to. Kids really love that. Then they usually try and that is even more funny cus they just kinda stumble over what they are trying to say!!!

For me, it's actually the opposite of most of the posters. We have somewhat different senses of humor, so it's rare that we actually share a hearty laugh; or, maybe I'm just too serious. I can't say our marriage isn't incredibly fulfilling, however...

We did too! I couldn't get his wedding ring on and he kept trying to help me, but I was so nervous I kept brushing his hand away. It was so funny!


Yes, you could say we pride ourselves on how silly we can be. Life is far too complicated not to laugh!

All jokes aside, though...One of the things I love about my husband is that he makes me laugh...He has a great sense of humor and when I was working in television I was always looking out for shows where they needed new writers...Unfortunately in that line of business it's who you know and I was never a favorite of the producers (refusing to lie to guests and make a mockery of their "problems." )

But, anyway, we laugh a lot together, the only time it makes me mad is when he jokes at the dinner table, I'm always afraid he'll make my son choke...Once he made me laugh so hard soda came out of my nose, which of course made us all laugh harder!

Not only did it ruin the food on my plate but it burned my nostrils!! Not fun.

I always wonder if Jesus laughed...and if He did - what made Him laugh?

Well, she gets an "A" for honesty but...ouch! Talk about truth hurting!
Maybe you can try not sleeping with her for a while and she'll start laughing at your jokes again!!

I know what you mean. When I was a young kid, my brother, sister and I would always have an afternoon snack and my brother one time made me laugh so hard that I spit out milk all over the table. My brother said, "GROSS, YUCK!!" I've learned since then to keep my mouth closed no matter how funny something is.

I always wonder if Jesus laughed...and if He did - what made Him laugh?

That's an interesting thought. If I had to guess, Jesus laughed like us humans do. He probably laughed at innocent jokes though.

My problem is that I am not serious enough sometimes. It takes a lot of effort to tailor myself to the occasion. I may be a grouchy old bear on here, but that is nowhere near what I am like in real life.

When I was your age, I didn't have much of a sense of humor either...but as you go through life's experiences and heartaches, you will most likely develop a sense of humor--trust me! As long as your marriage still works for both of you, that's all that matters.

Humour is essential in this household! Even our kids are trying their best to get us to laugh. As for me, well, my dad was always one to tell jokes and pull stunts on others...so yeah. I love doing it, too.

There is nothing here to incite the humor in me. Baseless rules, factless drivel, nonsense about masturbation, mating, marriage, courting, meeting partners and so much more without any basis in solid fact, or out of context Bible passages or literalist extremism doesn't do anything for me but aggravate me and frustrate me. I came here to be inspired by fellow brothers and sisters. I am anything but. I am becoming more turned off by organized religion now than I ever was before I got here.

If you want to see my humorous side, you have to earn it. If I don't respect you, or much less like you, there isn't much of a chance that I am going to tell you the story of Jesus, Moses and an old man playing golf. I don't even feel comfortable opening up about who I truly am, much less the select few details I want you to know. Even what you do know, as a collective you're judgemental and try to hammer me full of rules, calling me names if I don't buy into your reasoning. I am member of a fantastic non-christian lifestyle board that is far more understanding and empathetic and treats each other far more decently and far less judgementally than what I see here. What's wrong with this picture?

So, the question I ask you is this. On one hand, you seek to be uplifted, inspired and motivated in the ways of Christ. You seek to reach out to fellow Christians. You seek to dialogue and open your mind, rather than close it. On the other hand you get harassed, flamed, belittled, berated, painted into a box, judged, compartmentalized and burdened with baseless rules. Which is the easier one to smile at? To be amicable towards? To joke around with and share the good times? I tell you the truth, it's an easy decision for me.

If you want to see the better side of me and the real me, you have to earn it, but the more I see the more I crawl inside my shell. There are people here that know what I am like, but they are a select few. They know because I respect them or like them. They know because I let them know, and they like what they see.

I won't drag your thread off topic, so I'm going to leave it at that, but you asked, so I told you the truth as I always do.

If this gets censored, frankly I give up.

SK, I know how you feel. But I think you would be a better witness against legalism if you showed more of the joy that is in you, and I think that humor is a powerful tool for fighting the overly-serious way we sometimes get caught up in human pride.
