Hmmm, so the man who seems to have invented the verb "plutoed"...
I don't even get credit for that.
The verb to pluto (preterite and past participle: plutoed) was coined in the aftermath of the 2006 IAU decision. In January 2007, the American Dialect Society chose plutoed as its 2006 Word of the Year, defining to pluto as "to demote or devalue someone or something, as happened to the former planet Pluto when the General Assembly of the International Astronomical Union decided Pluto no longer met its definition of a planet."
Society president Cleveland Evans stated the reason for the organization's selection of plutoed: "Our members believe the great emotional reaction of the public to the demotion of Pluto shows the importance of Pluto as a name. We may no longer believe in the Roman god Pluto, but we still have a sense of connection with the former planet.

Not unless my name is Google.

People have extracted more pure phooey from the Bible, and especially Revelation, than from any other source in the universe.

So I notice with how scientists treat the Joshua passage to say the Bible teaches geocentrism.

They must have worked hard on that one.

Typical history re-write to fit your personal religious beliefs.

Isn't it best to just accept things as they are?

500 years from now, one of your descendants will probably be claiming that the idea of using a literal interpretation of Genesis to say that the Bible contradicts evolution is an evil atheist scientist plot to make Christianity look silly, and no real Christians ever claimed that.

The Pluto issue is a sore spot with me. :)
Why?

Can you even begin to grasp the idea of advanced space exploration? Are you aware that new technologies and science, that is a thousand times more sensitive than a mere hundred years ago, will be thousands of times more accurate than today by the mid 2020's? Are you aware of all the new discoveries via advanced terrestrial and space telescopes, using visible, gamma ray, x-ray, infrared, microwave, radio, gravitational waves, and other detection technologies? Can you possibly get your head around the concept that unlike religion, science isn't dogmatic, and that it corrects and fine tunes as additional data is discovered and detected?

Why, oh why, would anyone in their right mind, consider the re-classification of Pluto, (based on modern space observation and exploration), a "sore spot"? Please be 100% honest with me, because otherwise, you really look like a loon. Thanks.

Science isn't a democracy, and it doesn't typically care what the public thinks about an issue. Paleontologists aren't concerned with whether you or anyone else calls Apatosaurus Brontosaurus, they've decided the name should be Apatosaurus so that's its name.

well old post but A) it was called apatosaurus first, but was thought do be a different species, was then found to be part of the apatosarus line. B) it was still brontosarus just a sub species, and C) it's now relabled brontosaurus recently.

You do understand that "planet" is just a name we put on some of the bigger objects orbiting the Sun, right? The joke is that nothing changed at all when Pluto was reclassified as a dwarf planet. It's got a lot of company, and since the the number of Kuiper objects like Pluto seems to be huge, it made sense to put Pluto in with similar objects, rather than with planets.

It's kind of the way people were up in arms when they started daylight saving time, convinced the extra sun would burn the corn.

It's funny, but troubling that people don't get the difference between reality and what names we put on it.

Possibly so, since the KJV does not deny evolution.
