and for secular music it says in COlossians 3:16

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom;teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in yuor hearts to the Lord

it says in the bold part that are song needs to praise God.Now does a secular song do that?

It also does not restrict you to only that kind of music.

Evanescences thank God on their bootleg. Their record company Windup says that the band allowed the cd to be distributed to Christian record stores while the band claim the opposite.

I don't want to judge them, only God knows their hearts, but it could be that they are Christians or at least they were. Now when they got a chance to sell more records as a more mainstream group, they tone down their Christian beliefs.

Yes, they are. POPular music....which more or less proves they aren't very good. To be popular, you have to please a wide number of people and compromise on style....or say nothing important and have no style.

Evanescence is not Christian at all. In an interview, they basically swore at all Christians using the "f" word. Don't get me wrong they may have good music and good lyrics. But I doubt they are Christians, but then again God knows the heart.

Ugh, this stupid topic is never ending. They USE TO BE a Xian band when they first came out. They got a lot of support when they were underground by the Xian community. Their first album, Origin, was in fact their "Xian Album" but for Fallen, they wanted to tie in more with the secular community because they didn't want limitations. The fact that they were a Xian band before they got signed gave WindUp the idea they wanted to stay on the Xian market when in fact, they didn't. nothing wrong with that unless you are one of those people who assume that every Xian who chooses to be in the music industry has to be a Xian artist... in which case, I think you need a major wake up call. The truly funny thing is that a good portion of the songs on Fallen were also on Origin.

And for the person who says they didn't thank God, you are obviousely without a clue, so it's a good thing that I always carry a spare. Inside the cover on the cd, the first person Ben thanks is "Jesus - All the life left in me is you"...

And for all those people who want to whine about him saying the "f word", shall we casts stones at you too for when you say something you shouldn't say?

CJ
I'm sorry but I didn't look at it that carefully (the time I did, I was in a car)... but irrespective of which, I don't see the rest of the band thanking the Lord which implies to me that they are not a Christian band... that's just my thinking.

three things that i don't know if it is has been cleared up cause i skimmed throught the 5 pages:
Paul McCoy is the lead singer of 12 stones not its guitarists
Tourniquet was written by a former band member who is a christian and it is talking about if a christian keeps their salvation if they coommit suicide
someone said something like we need to change or our faith needs to change otherwise it will die out. wether we "change" or not the Christian Faith will always survive because it comes from God not from man. Also to say our faith needs to change is dangerous to say because most likely if it were to change then we will try to conform it to the world.

I am a huge fan of evanescence, i love them. To the people who listen to secular music... to each his own. If you feel your faith can handle it and your relationship with Christ won't be affected for the bad, then it is between you and God. To those who feel that no one should listen to secular music...maybe your faith can't handle listening to secular music and maybe God doesn't want YOU to listen to secular music and that is totally cool, just remember that you will have to answer to God for everything that you do and the person that listens to secular music will have to answer to God for everything that they do.

Evanescence isn't a christian band... they never were one! They might have gotten their songs played on a christian radio station in the beginning, but only because they were trying to be heard. Amy and Ben are Christians... I think they are the only two. But, ben isn't a member of Evanescence so I guess it's just Amy. BTW, Tourniquet isn't an Evanescence song. It was written by someone in the band John Lecompt (bassist) was in before Evanescence. I wish people would just stop with the Christian stuff... who cares if they're a "christian" band? Some of their lyrics reflect Christian beliefs.. some don't. If the lyrics help you in some way.. why should it matter what genre they are? And, I would proudly call Evanescence pop. Pop isn't a type of music, it refers to popular music. You can be Rock and pop at the same time. And, in the interview where ben said "f".. I highly doubt he was directing that to Christians. Ok, I'm done now

First off, I'm not getting into this "are they Xian or not". I know the truth and if people won't accept that because they think they know better, then whatever. It's not that big of a deal to me because they are obviousely not a Xian band anymore so what do we get by arguing something thats over and done with...

Second, Tourniquet was first on the Soul Embrace CD... but you might wanna look at that a little bit closer because most of the songs on Soul Embrace were written by none other than Amy and Ben. The song was written by Ben Moody, Amy Lee, D. Hodges, and John LeCompt.

No they aren't christian. Some christian stores thought they were and started selling their cds. But they got taken out of the christian stores. But I really believe by reading some of their lyrics it does reflect on God and most of their lyrics is based on how a lot of people including teenagers feel. There was a song by them that wasn't put into their cd. And she was talking about God and that she sorry for everything she had done and she wants to come back to him... But even if there not christian their cool..

John Tesh covered the Evanescense tune "Bring Me To Life" (Wake me up inside) The lyrics can easily be seen as Christian, however that doesn't mean they are. There are a lot of secular tunes that have positive messages. Tom Petty's "Won't Back Down" is one example.

Sometimes people get so caught up in the secular versus Christian music arguement that they try to make excuses so they can listen to secular bands.

[bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse], you had tobring this thread back up, didn't you?

I'm not making excuses. I listen to mainly secular music. Everything from Bon Jovi to Manson. I need no excuse to call a band Xian. :/
