  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Is belief enough to be saved?

according to Scripture we must put to death the deeds of the flesh and suffer with Christ in order to be saved Rom 8:13, 17 (I think that is the right verse)

"he who endures to the end will be saved"

Well, that is what Faith will go for a person. I mean, it's not as though the above conflicts with Sola Fide or teaches works-righteousness.

some hold that Sola Fide means that once we have faith there is nothing we need to do to be saved

I think those verses say otherwise. however, I would always emphasize that these are supernatural works, and that we are saved purely by grace

and as Paul says, "I worked harder than anyone, not I, but the grace of God with me!"

I think "nothing we do to be saved" is somewhat of a loaded way of saying it, but the point is that it is only by faith that we are saved, and there's nothing in either of these two statements that conflicts with Sola Fide.

read acts 15:8. God knows the heart. its belief AND receiving of the SPirit. one can believe all they want. but one must believe and receive the Spirit(baptism) mark 16:16. believe and be baptized. Read the many verses that says when we believe we receive the SPirit. but the Belief is the FAITH in the gospel as in we ACCEPT it into our hearts which GOD sees. So belief only yes sort of. belief with the receiving of the SPirit baptism saves. SAVED BY GRACE THROUGH FAITH(or belief in the gospel message and accepting it into your heart.) the accepting in to your heart part is the through faith.

well actualy what you said is loaded too. its saved by grace THROUGH faith. its the "through faith" part we need to understand. which i explained a bit above. belief in the gospel message of the work of the cross and accepting this into your heart, which God knows. its this faith that is the "through faith" part. And at this point we are spirit baptized. mark 16:16. believe and are (spirit)baptized.

In these conversations, that's assumed. Both the Catholic and the Protestant POVs--Faith and Works OR Sola Fide--understand that everything begins with God's enabling Grace.
