I'd guess it would be one of the lawyers for the families dropping the figure to a journalist. Throw out a huge number and it raises everyone's expectations of what might be reasonable compensation. Start at $10 grand and you might get a counter offer of $2 grand. Throw out $450k and you might get $100k offered. And my guess is that at least some of the lawyers will be on a 'no win no fee' deal so they'll be pushing hard. Which doesn't detract from whether compensation should be made.

I know what's been written about it. And now you do too. And I've said more than once that there is a lot of information missing. Information that one would need to make an informed comment. It appears that there is prima facie evidence for a claim. But yet again, there is way too much information missing to make a reasonable case for or against compensation. So if you want me to argue the families' case then it ain't going to happen. You don't need me to make any political point you feel is relevant. If you do then you may then find someone who is actually looking for an argument.
