Is $450,000 enough for each illegal immigrant separated from family?

Because it was the last admin that was attempting to keep illegals out, and it's the current one that's giving them incentive to come in, including huge cash payments for ones that were kept out during the last admin.

One can imagine word of mouth spreading that America will give thousands of dollars to those who cross the border.

I'm not sure how many times I have to explain this, but they are not being paid. Especially not to commit crimes. The government is being sued. For what is presumably considered to be illegal actions. Those crossing the border were (I presume) also acting illegaly (it's actually only classed as a misdemeanor) but that doesn't change the situation. They may well be fined - I think the fines start at fifty bucks. And may well be, if they have not already been, deported. And that doesn't change the situation either. So...

Were the families acting illegaly? Yes.
Were they justified in what they did? I'd want to see individual cases to make a decision.
Was the previous administration wrong in separating children from parents? Yes.
Do the parents have a case against the US government because of that? Well, it certainly seems so.
What is the likely outcome? If they win their case they will be awarded compensation OR there will be some negotiation between government legal eagles and those representing the familes to reach an outcome which will be satisfactory to both parties.
How much is that likely to be? No-one has any idea. Although Biden has made a pre-emptive comment that $450,000 is not going to be the starting point for those negotiations.

Good grief. These are not 'cash payments'. If the government loses any one of the cases in a court of law and there is any money involved then it will be compensation. If that is the case then the money will be required to compensate them for the actions of the previous administration.

How you see past efforts versus current effforts to reduce illegal immigration at the border has nothing whatsoever to do with these cases.

The word sure got around that he was going to allow them in, so they even knew which shirts to have custom-designed for their journey. Next time, the shirts will say, "Biden, where's my half-million bucks?"

The only just compensation would be for the illegals to compensate the Border Patrol agents who have to deal with them.

Luckily for all of us, it's down to the courts to decide.

I guess they can't be Republicans. They're all wearing masks.

Thank you. Thank you. I'll be here all week. Try the veal. It's delicious.

With at least 2 million illegals in this country, that'll be one way to tie up the courts. At least our lawyers will get rich from all that taxpayer money no matter which way the verdicts go.

I guess it'll depend on whether they are treated illegally or not. But you'll find that lawyers are reluctant to take on cases that they are not likely to win. Probably why a few have taken on these particular cases - they feel that they can prove that the last admin acted wrongly.

Multiplied by $450,000 each--that comes out to 900 Billion. Considering what biden is trying to shove through Congress right now, it puts the real wasteful spending into context.
But then again, he's not looking for one or the other, but both.

The cost is well worth the millions of extra votes from people in the country illegally.

.
As to American citizens, EVERY child in the country under the Obama administration whose parent went to prison was separated and not placed in an adult prison facility with the parent. As to immigrants, families were split apart despite the claims of the Obama/Joe administration. Don't you remember the Obama/Biden cages, and how Joe reinstated the cages Trump eliminated? I think Obama and Biden should PERSONALLY have to pay for those who were treated so inhumanely:

"For asylum-seeking families who arrive in the United States together and who are apprehended together, the first point of separation is likely to be CBP’s temporary detention facilities near the U.S.-Mexico border. These holding cells—which are designed for short-term custody of 12 hours or less, yet regularly detain people for days at a time—are commonly referred to by guards and detainees alike as hieleras [iceboxes] or perreras [dog kennels] because of their frigid temperatures and harsh conditions. Detainees are first taken to the hielera, which they describe as extremely cold, overcrowded, and unsanitary. They are denied showers and supplies like soap, diapers, sanitary napkins, and sufficient toilet paper. At night, the lights stay on while detainees sleep on the floor or benches without bedding. They are denied medical care and given inadequate meals and drinking water. Detainees are isolated from their loved ones, their consulate, and legal counsel. They report abusive and coercive behavior from CBP officers, such as pressure to accept their deportation. Some detained families are subsequently taken to the perrera for an additional day, or even for several more days."

The cost is "nothing", as biden would say. Although when it comes to those extra votes, he could even call it an investment.

Gee, there seems to be some confusion that some people have about what the US needs to do with immigrants. Insinuate that the government is too lax and might even 'pay' them and they're up in arms. Suggest that they are treated poorly and pressured to leave and...they're up in arms.

I'm guessing it's a few. Maybe you have a number? Maybe you have all the info that I suggested earlier that we'd need to make an informed comment. Facts do seem to be thin on the ground.

When illegals are rewarded with a half-million dollars of taxpayer money after breaking our laws, we're up in arms.

We want immigrants to enter the country legally. We don't want a large portion of Central and South America pouring in here illegally. Do you know of any country that wants millions of immigrants illegally pouring into it? Our northern neighbor Canada sure doesn't. They barely allow legal immigration.
