As I was reading this article, I couldn't help thinking it sounded familiar. I pray that we are not headed down the same road with Iran that we went with Iraq. It just seems so odd that there are so many conflicts going on at one time in that region.

"Wednesday's committee report concludes that: 'The U.S. Intelligence Community believes Iran could have a nuclear weapon sometime in the beginning to the middle of the next decade. The timetable for an Iranian program depends on a wide range of factors - such as the acquisition of key components and materials, successful testing, outside assistance, if any, and the impact of domestic and international political pressures.'"

I don't think they are going to jump into anything too quick--they got burned pretty good with the iraq thing.

If it does happen then I will have to seriously reconsider some things.

Very insightful Dan:thumbsup:

Maybe I shouldn't put it off, but another major war in that area makes me think that I should load up the ark and slide back into the hills a bit.

No, it's not fear but rather prudence. I have to be wary, I'm a "survivalist" leftover from the 1980's but things & time seem to be speeding toward some climactic event.

Guess people thought the same things during WW1 & 2.

If you read some of people's diaries & stuff from those wars you see they all thought they were headed straight for the apocolypse - & we're still waitin'. What bugs me is our govt., will follow yours, lemming-like, however mad their policy making & we're already on our ark - though the modern world is now catching up fast. We may have to move 'farther up & further in' as the Chronicles say.

I guess the key for us is to understand that it is going to get much worse before Jesus returns. It is a reminder that times are short and there are a lot of people who need to hear about Jesus.

You are right, what does hiding in the woods do? We are concerned for our children but a spirit of fear is not of the Lord, now is it?

It would indeed be something if this was the beginning of the end.

I've not paid too much attention to eschatology--all I know is that Jesus will return one day. Anyone have a definite "this I believe" on end times things?

John MacArthur does a really good teaching of the end times time-line. He has a web site, is fundamental, bible-based in his teaching & you can order either his tapes or books. He is one of our favourite preachers as he is so scriptually sound.

Basically he believes that the church prior to the coming of the defilement of the temple will be raptured out & it will be unbelievers & those still to be brought to Christ who will suffer the brunt of the end times horrors. I am no theologian but I have always found him very sound on other teachings.

That would be a premillenial dispensational teaching. It is a quite common evangelical eschatological view.

MacArthur used to be on the local Christian radio station and was my favorite to listen to but eventually got taken off--I think he stepped on too many toes;). His book The Gospel According to Jesus is pretty good.

Dan and menno, do you guys realize how often you two are the only ones in a conversation, and when someone else posts, you dismiss them so fast they don't ever really get to be part of the discussion.

It's almost like this is the Danfrey and Menno Forum instead of the Anabaptist forum. You gotta make room for other people, guys.

Jehane has been trying to be part of this thread, but you keep dismissing her by implying she isn't operating with good information.

:scratch:I think you are reading into it too much. I wasn't dismissing Jehane's view, just putting a "theological" term to it, since she says she hasn't a lot of experience with it.

My wife is very much the premil dispensationalist and I've not tossed her out:p

Take a deep breath and chill...there's not a schizo in every post (maybe just every other post)^_^

I just was noticing how much you and Dan seem to talk to each other and no one else, really. I thought as a brother in the Lord I would maybe point out something you hadn't noticed before that would lead to better harmony and brotherhood around here, since that seems to be an issue everywhere on this board.

I didn't really see you putting a theological term to it as much as I saw you telling her that the author and speaker she likes isn't any good.

Then you dismissed me by telling me to take a deep breath and chill. It's an issue bud.

^_^ you are funny.

I've often thought it would be neat to be plopped on the proverbial psychiatrist/psychologist couch and get "examined". But the only one I would ever trust was Dr. Robert Hartley:p

Shame on you insulting the man like that Menno.

Yes, I am being sarcastic. You mentioned how critical people on here are, yet you seem to enjoy showing Menno and I how wrong we are. Yes, we do talk alot, but if you would take the time to read the threads without a chip on your shoulder, you would see that all of us contribute on here. Some threads tend to be more Menno and I as we have quite a bit in common, but if you would ask the opinion of the ladies on here, I think they would tell you that they feel welcome and appreciated. If not, I would welcome them telling us.

It doesn't seem like you are often any other way.

Yes, those who dish it can rarely take it.

I think that if you really respected the women here, you would read what they write and not just react. It would be good if you could respond to them without being dismissive or parental.

If you want their opinion, ask them, don't tell them what their opinion is. "I think they would tell you that they feel welcome and appreciated" is not asking them what they really think and then listening to the answer, it is overlaying your opinion of yourself onto them.

My goal is not to show you how wrong you are, but to show you how right you should be.

You are doing it again. It's too bad two Christian men are unwilling to look at an area where they need growth.

I'm sorry if it makes you uncomfortable for someone to have a serious discussion with you about growth and Christian maturity, but that doesn't mean it shouldn't be discussed. Making jokes doesn't change the reality of needing to spur each other on to greater things. With almost no effort at all, you two could be genuine leaders in this community. It would take very little effort.

If a brother in the Lord can't tell you these things, who can?
