  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Ipod or MP3?

Can someone please explain to me the difference between an Ipod and an MP3? I am not up date with all the latest technology LOL (I like to live a simple life!), but I feel as though I am missing out on some wonderful sermons and teachings that I could otherwise have access to if I had either an Ipod or an MP3 LOL! Thanks and God bless...

iPod is a product - a media player. MP3 is an audio file format. I prefer non-iPod MP3 players that aren't quite so locked into iTunes since I use Linux.

I can't stand ipod because of itunes, I have an mp3 player...
I have an ipod and use winamp and the mli_ipod plugin to manage my 5000 MP3 file collection with cover art and it works fine. I have never installed itunes.

LOL I don't know what itunes are! Does an MP3 player give me visual as well as audio? Will I be able to see you and hear you while you are preaching LOL? And do I have to plug it into a computer to watch/hear it or does it work on it's own?

You don't need a ipod or similar device to watch good teachings, just google some names of good teachers and you can watch them on there websites. For instance:

Ken and Gloria Copeland, very rich teaching

There are media players that play video as well - MP4 and WMV files, among others I think, plus audio.

Very good advice here. I have an Ipod, so I can attest to what was previously said about the Ipod being pretty "picky" about using ITunes. ITunes is the computer program that you would use to purchase, download, store, and upload songs for your Ipod. It can be a bit finicky though, especially if there is more than one Ipod in your home, and you try to put some songs/files on the other Ipod. It throws a fit if you try to do that.

Once upon a time, I had a Rio MP3 player that held 64 Mb worth of files. It was very simple -- all you had to do was copy files from your hard drive, then either drag them over to the MP3 Player window or paste them. No Itunes or any overbearing program to have to fool with. Just take music from your computer and move it to the MP3 player! I don't know if the other brands of MP3 players are that easy. If they are, I would probably look at one of those for my next player.

itunes is a program made by apple to interface with its ipods. It restricts you when installing certain media files and doesn't allow you to copy those files back to your hard drive either. Some people like it and others don't. I already have been using winamp as a media player for my mp3s before itunes was invented so it was a no brainer for me to use it to manage my ipod instead of itunes. I recommend if you don't use itunes get a good program to rip your mp3s like Exact Audio Copy or CDex etc. Another good tool to have is MP3tag to edit and manage things as it is easier to fix mistakes that you get when you download tag data from the internet servers.

Thankyou everyone - you're all so helpful! After reading all this I was leaning towards the MP3 player, and so I picked one up today. As soon I saw that with the Ipod you have to download some itunes program, I decided to opt for the more simple one. It was 'on special' LOL. It's got a screen, a built in speaker, is 8 gigabytes and holds 2000 songs. Yippee! Before I open it though, I have to work out if it's going to be compatible with our computer program - it has to be Windows 2000, XP or higher and I now have to work out how to figure that out LOL! Thanks again and God bless...

Thankyou for the advice - as always you provide really good links! Another one to save in my faves! I found an MP3 for a very good price, so we'll see how it goes. God bless you...:)
