Think about where your life is now.
Next, think about where your life
would be if you had made all the right
choices and decisions. Nobody is
perfect so we all have situations or
memories that should not be. Eventually
these pile up and get to a point when
they become unmanageable. When you
look in the mirror and hardly recognize
the person looking back at you; or when
you don't like what you see then you
are getting very close to being honest
with yourself.
Imagine yourself being a gunslinging outlaw in
an old western town. You challenge the
Sheriff (Jesus) to a gun fight again and
again but when He shows up, you quickly
run away. Then one day, for whatever reason,
you don't run away. You know the Sheriff is a
faster draw than you. But if you are drunk or
foolish enough then you draw your
gun and are shot dead. But if you don't,
you will wind up staring each other
down for who knows how long. Perhaps,
this causes you to freeze and not move
until everything fades away. Locking
eyes with Him you realize that, at this
moment, there are only the two of you.
Sooner or later, you will give up and
turn yourself over to the Sheriff. That
is the only way you will get to have
a relationship with Him.
Repeat this step daily. It is like pulling
the cord on a lawnmower. Sometimes it starts
the first time, sometimes it takes many pulls
before the engine kicks in. Be patient and
know that it will eventually work.
