  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Introduce myself :-)

Hi, name is Justin Colburn and I am a 33 year old Unorthodox Christian from Denver, Colorado. I say unorthodox because I do believe in the Bible and Jesus Christ, I just believe a little different than most people I've met. Well, all people I've met actually. Lol. After 30 years of living as an atheist, I nearly died from a heroin addiction and drug withdrawls. I ended up having seizures for 3 days before anyone would take me to the hospital and by the time I got there, my temprature was 108 degrees and the doctors were sure I would have severe brain damage. They induced me into a coma for the next 3 weeks and when I woke up, I had no clue where I was or who I was. All I knew was that God was real and that the wall had CCU written in black paint on it. Lol. I saw many things when I was in that coma and know without a doubt that God is real. Before that time, I had never gone to church or cracked open a Bible a day in my life. And now, instead of brain damage like the doctors thought I would have, I feel better than ever. I love reading scripture and tying it into my knowledge of science and mathematics. BTW, as much as scientists want to disprove God, their science does quite the opposite. Mathematics and geometry in nature, proves intelligent design. Regardless, before this near death experience, I never even gave God a second though because I was brought up in an atheist family. They still are and actually I think, they think I am crazy. Lol. I really don't care tho. I have never been more happy and felt this kind of peace ever in my entire life. Anyways, just wanted to say hi to everyone and introduce myself. Hope everyone is having a great night! God bless! :)

The human mind is an amazing thing, isn't it? Tell me something. Were you exposed to the idea of 'intelligent design' before the induced coma?

Welcome! People can be a little prickly, but for the most part you'll find this a very nice board.

Also, I'd abandon the idea that science and Christianity are by definition opposed. In the USA there are probably more Christians who accept evolution and the Big Bang then there are atheists full stop.

What on Earth does heroin addiction have to do with being an atheist?
Nothing. He's saying he was a drug addict and an atheist.

Hi, JCTheCreation. Before your brush with death, and subsequent conversion, did you ever spend much time thinking about why you were an atheist? For example, had you ever read atheist literature, and were you aware of the classic arguments for and against? I ask because you say you were raised in an atheist family, and never gave God a second thought. Is it possible your atheism was similarly uninformed?

Since religion is the opiate of the masses, yes even Karl Marx was right occasionally, it seems that all you did was to switch one opiate for another.

Karl Marx was right about nothing. Did you get out of the wrong side of bed this morning?

I believe you'll find that among Christians here, the specific beliefs differ a lot. So you should be fine.

Well, all people I've met actually. Lol. After 30 years of living as an atheist, I nearly died from a heroin addiction and drug withdrawls. I ended up having seizures for 3 days before anyone would take me to the hospital

Why? Wasn't there anyone there to take care of you? That seems negligent.

I'm glad you recovered

I haven't seen scientists trying to "disprove God", it's more like many scientific discoveries made just happen to contradict certain people's interpretations of scripture. No scientist wakes up and thinks "What can I do to disprove God today?"

Welcome to the board by the way. In terms of your unorthodox beliefs, you can relax, I'm sure you'll fit right in around here. ;)

My only memories of God, was when I was a kid and an elderly couple came to my parents house with a Bible preaching the word. My dad let them in, only to mock and make fun of them. From that point on, looking up to my dad, I hardened my heart to God. I believed firmly in evolution and the theories and answers that science provided. My only other experiences with the idea of intelligent design, was when I was making fun of others for believing. But mostly, I just avoided the topic completely.

Raised antitheist, I feel bad for you. They are where most if not all of the bad stereotypes people associate with atheism.
