• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I really need to stop using the internet so much. It is an incredibly valuable resource but I'm misusing it by not being receptive enough and spending way too much time on it. It is an ego driven thing that sees me spouting off my opinions to compensate for feelings of inadequacy.

At the moment, I'm only posting here and reading news sites. I recognised this in the past and had myself banned from forums. Insulting a moderator works well. Haha

I'm procrastinating when I need to be edified by the Bible in its entirety. It is a little daunting though as it isn't exactly light reading. It doesn't help that i tend to be a slow learner.

Any suggestions?

Perhaps it is the thought of "mastering" the entire Bible you find daunting. Why not select one Book of the Bible and focus on that. Read not only that book, but commentaries on it. Start a notebook where you record your own thoughts on what you have read and contrast them with what the commentaries say.

Thanks Ophiolite. I have the Logos Bible software on my phone, which includes commentaries. I thought I'd grab a modern English hard copy as well when i source one. I'd really like to start at Genesis and run through them in order.
I think i will need to go cold turkey by stopping on a certain date and steeling myself with some help in the meantime.

I also have the tendency to let my time be vacuumed up online, so I use applications like Concentrate and Self Control to blacklist sites that are temping to me when I really need to focus and not procrastinate. Self Control is especially effective because once you blacklist a site and set the timer for it, NOTHING you can do can reverse it. Restarting your laptop and deleting the app will not lift the ban until the time is over; the site will be totally inaccessible. I only have Apple products but I'm certain ones are available for the PC as well.

You can also get apps that are alarm clocks so you can manage your time, or simply use the timer on your phone. I'll give myself 10 minutes for Instagram when I've got homework, and once the timer goes off, I just have to close it. I have parents who keep me accountable about my time management, but you being an adult doesn't mean you can't ask a spouse, friend, or someone else to give you a nudge when you're spending too much time online.

Good luck! :)
