  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Over the last few weeks I have been reading different Indian/Hindu philosophical works. The Cosmology is difficult to grasp, but anyway, I'm looking for resources on the Bhagavad Gita and Upanishads. Any Christian perspective would be helpful but I am looking for a Reformed view of it.

Thanks.

You might be interested in Stephen Mitchell. He 'rewrites' quite a few religious and spiritual books with a different 'spin'. He is criticized by many but I like his work. His work on the Tao Te Ching is fantastic. He tackles some Christian works with 'The Gospel of Jesus' and 'The Book of Job' but I haven't read them so can't comment.

There is only one Reformed view of it that i can think of. It also has the benefit of being a Roman Catholic view as well as Arminian Protestant views:
Isaiah 43:10 1599 Geneva Bible said:
You are my witnesses, saith the Lord, and my seruant, whom I haue chosen: therefore yee shall knowe and beleeue me and yee shall vnderstand that I am: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me.

You might want to check out "Global Gods" by David W. Shenk. ISBN 0-8361-9006-8, Library of Congress # 95-2233

In it he outlines Hindu thought and the Hindu scriptures that you mention. He goes into some detail about the basis of Hindu thinking in part 4 of the book. BTW he also deals with African religions, Buddha, Confucius and Plato, Christianity and Judaism, Islam and other views.

I understand that he is a Mennonite though I am not sure if he practices it or not.
