give the guy a vasectomy... or tie the tubes of the woman.levi501 said:yah, we should if they can prove infertility.
If you had a child who was a dwarf who fell in love with another dwarf, would you also want one of them to be sterilized? IIRC, the death rate for a child of that union is much much higher on average than the chance for an incestuous relationship to result in a genetic problem to a child.Fear said:I would not condone a sexual relationship unless one of them was sterized, the risk of accidentally having inbread children is too great.
to follow your tangent, which i think is perfectly on topic, i think that there is a difference.Marek said:I'm curious. This is a little of topic but, if we allow gay marriages to be legal, then should we also include the legalization of marriages between brother and sister, mother and son, father and daughter, brother and brother, etc. It seems that we should. If not, what is the difference?
I guess they are illegal for the same reasons that gay marriages are illegal. I guess you could consider those moral reasons?sparklecat said:Do you know on what grounds incestuous marriages are illegal? If it's for moral reasons, I'd have no problem with legalizing this. If it's for reasons that the government actually has a right to make laws based upon, that might be different.

there is greater genetic variation between two dwarves than there is between siblings. it is an apple/oranges argument.sparklecat said:If you had a child who was a dwarf who fell in love with another dwarf, would you also want one of them to be sterilized? I agree with you, except I don't think that sterilization should be required. I think marriage and sex should be two separate issues. Although it should be illegal for anyone to engage in an 'incestual relationship that can produce offspring'.Danhalen said:to follow your tangent, which i think is perfectly on topic, i think that there is a difference.
outlaw any incestual relationship that can produce offspring because of the possible transmission of genetic defects. we can not punish a child with genetic defects if we can take steps to prevent them. if the couple agrees to sterilization, then we can allow the marriage.

thirstforknowledge said:I think it is what Danhalen said. Social programming. Most people think homosexuality is wrong from a religious standpoint, which I guess could be considered a forum of social programming.
I think I'll have to give this some more thought.
So are we going to ask them nicely to not have kids?Marek said:I agree with you, except I don't think that sterilization should be required. I think marriage and sex should be two separate issues. Incest is already illegal. We don't ask nicely. If they do have sex, there exists punishments for their actions. Just because they are married, doesn't mean they will have sex when they wouldn't if they weren't married.levi501 said:So are we going to ask them nicely to not have kids?
Pretty please don't have unsafe sex!
What the condom broke??!
Illegal and legal don't determine right and wrong-correct?Marek said:Incest is already illegal. We don't ask nicely. If they do have sex, there exists punishments for their actions. Just because they are married, doesn't mean they will have sex when they wouldn't if they weren't married.
