I started a thread in GT to address how outraged I am with the "Mary hate" that I have seen from various groups. I thought maybe my Orthodox brothers and sisters would like to come and post some thoughts

Actually, most of your Protestant siblings in Christ love Mary too, so I hope you don't mind if we comment on that thread.

Lux, I have no problem with anyone posting, even the ones who do show hate for her. Maybe this is a good way to let people know that she is loved and why.

I think that would be very nice to let people know that love is always better than hate. Hopefully no one on CF hates Mary--I haven't seen any evidence of this in any of the Christian fora, and if there are "Christians" who hate Mary out there, maybe they will see your thread and re-evaluate their feelings and examine why they feel like they do.

Hi Christy, I just found this site so I'm a bit hesitant to start posting on the thread you mentioned. I can say from personal experience that I have seen a fair amount of suspicion of Mary; sometimes hostile, sometimes just manifesting itself in ignoring her for the most part. I have seen this not only from the theological right, but the theological left as well. There's the usual evangelical issues with veneration of Mary, but I have also had liberal Protestants "explain" to me how Mary is used by the priesthood to subjugate and yolk the naive laity into subservience.

The odd thing to me, as a former sola scriptura person anyway, is that the language exalting Mary is very much grounded in the Bible. Mary to me is everything a Christian should be. Her humble acceptance to become the Mother of God is a paramount act of faith. When the other Apostles fled, it was Mary and the other pious women who stood by Christ as he was crucified and it was to them that he first appeared after he rose from the dead. I think our mere words could never praise or honor her enough.
