  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

When they set fires in the middle of street, climb up on stages and scream obscenities until they shut the politician down, when they openly call for the murder of police - I'll back you up.

I take this to mean you've moved away from your original argument and moved on to 'because they're horrible awful people and I hate them!'

Yep, we are now in the zone of Rod Serling and intentionally ignoring what was written. @GoldenBoy89 laid it out rather plainly, and you're still ignoring what was written.

and I get it - There's no cop to blame, so those black lives don't matter.
Right. Like how raising breast cancer awareness means lung cancer patients' lives don't matter.

Like how being against drunk driving means you don't care about the victims of distracted drivers....

lots Of mocking, lots of tongue in cheek insults, lots of deflection, not one bit of facts that change the narrative.

Me thinks thou doest protest too loudly.

Apparently they do -- were it not for BLM, you wouldn't have pretended to care about those black lives... therefore, they do matter.

That made me really laugh out loud.

Now we return to the tactic of claiming attacks on personal character because the poster simply refuses to address the point made by other users. It's fairly evident that the original premise of this thread had a freight train run through the holes in its logic, as there are many organizations devoted to specific topics, yet there no demand for them to change their focus.

It's not surprising to see the adamant refusal to engage on the logic of the argument. Simple, it's faulty. And now we're in the vacillation phase, with shifts between changing the subject (false claims of, "They're rioting!") and claiming personal attack ("You're insulting me!). It will keep going this way because there is no logical reason to argue that an organization focused on a specific topic must focus on another topic. More people die of heart disease than muscular dystrophy, yet you never heard anyone tell Jerry Lewis to stop holding an annual telethon.

The deaths of all those black people make you really laugh out loud?

No, the audacity of the post I quoted makes me laugh.

What’s my first name?
How many children do I have?
What’s my race?
Where did I get my Masters?

I’ve mentioned all of these. I doubt you remember, let alone know what I feel, or do.

Some people would make terrible psychics.

The real question what does it have to do with anything? I didn't ask for your life story, so obviously I'm not going to pay attention when you share it unsolicited; All I care about is your attempt to minimize the issue that BLM wants to draw attention to.

It you do care about what I think and what you assume I am saying. You do it continuously.

I am not minimizing what BLM is trying to draw attention to. With all that screaming and profanity it speaks for itself

Let me know when you want to have a serious discussion.
We're now having to address the logic of the argument, but doing that would make the whole thing fall apart, so rebuff by claiming no one is being serious. The see-saw continues.

Here's the thread:
1. In general, more citizens kill each other than police kill citizens.
2. Therefore, organizations focused on police corruption/brutality/violence should not focus on that subject.

And here comes the freight train through the hole in the logic. There are many organizations focused on specific topics, why should this organization not focus on their topic of choice. There are really only two reasons for this demand one organization, but not others: one believes the police should never be held accountable; or racial animus toward the group in question.

But let's go back to saying no one wants to have serious discussion... One is also free to return to previous claims of, "I am being insulted," to further avoid explaining why the faulty logic presented should hold for this organization, but not other organizations.

Resisting arrest and related crimes, like using unkind language to an officer and riding in the back of a police van are not capital offenses.

It's also okay to say you never read any of the DOJ reports

It's obvious you do not care about Black lives

This attitude is the same ignorance that says people like Colin Kaepernick only kneel

Do you see how stupid that argument looks now?

Can you imagine how much more they could do with Pro Athletes and a National movement behind them, bringing their cause to national attention.

It's obvious you were not paying attention because your entire point of bringing up Chicago is to deflect from talking about police brutality while insinuating that murder in Chicago equals black people.

Keep repeating the lie that "only black lives matter," no one has said this, so stop repeating this straw man.

You are ignorant of what is actually happening in Chicago and other cities, so stop arguing that they are ignoring something when you do not know the work they are doing.

You do not care about Chicago, .

I have asked numerous times for proof the BLM is doing something for Chicago.

You have failed to offer any proof that BLM has done anything in Chicago

The premise stands until that is shown.

When all else fails, pretend as if people have not produced evidence and ignore the fact that the initial false premise has already had a freight train run through the holes of its logic. Then follow that up with claims of victory.

Apparently, you think it is a problem. You seem to be angry that Susan G. Komen focuses on breast cancer while ignoring lung cancer, which kills more people, and how they completely ignore heart disease, which is the leading cause of the death in the US.

I have a feeling that we're about to enter the realm of deliberate obtuseness.

Yep, we are now in the zone of Rod Serling and intentionally ignoring what was written. @GoldenBoy89 laid it out rather plainly, and you're still ignoring what was written.

Look at the bolded - anything there that is not an insult? Try stop addressing me personally and focus on the topic. Then we can have a conversation. You cannot win a debate through digs and insults.

The new topic is whether the poster is being insulted or not. We could spend time talking about the logic of whether an organization with a specific cause must change their cause due to outside demands, but as I stated earlier, it's easier to change the subject and attack an unrelated topic.
