  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Immigrants take over California.

As a descendant of Indigenous people, I find this thread humorous and very ironic to hear the descendants of European immigrants complain about other immigrants. The fact is, immigrants already took over the land now called California long ago, so to complain about other immigrants supposedly doing the same today is rather disingenuous, not to mention very comical.
One would think they got the message after the first earthquake.

California AG: 'We will prosecute' employers who violate sanctuary laws

This is what happens when a state has so many immigrants that they control the political process by sheer number of liberal voters. This warning was sounded years ago in my home state by a Latino school board president who stated publically that in a few years the minority community would get everything it wanted through the vote, as their population would become so great that local politics would be controlled by them and their sympathizers. That day has arrived in California.

Pat Buchanan sounded the alarm on this many years ago. The neo-cons banished him. Unfortunate.

How many do you think the US should accept?

The problem with he undue influence of rich donors isn't that there are so many of them - it is that their influence is so much greater than the average citizen. That's why they get massive tax breaks and repeals of net neutrality when the voting public is so overwhelmingly against.

Let me see if I got this straight. You think it was a bad thing that European immigrants took the country from Indigenous people but you think it is a good thing that other immigrants are taking over the New World from the Europeans?

No, I think what's going on is that not everyone buys into the idea that having a few non-white people around means that they're taking anything away from the white majority.

Stories, like the article in the OP, are commonly shared and always bring a good laugh.

Think about it. A horde of illegal immigrants. They're murderers, rapists and thieves. They're bringing alcoholism and other diseases. They have no respect for the local culture. They're mooching off the goodwill and welfare of the local residents. Their goats are roaming the countryside and depleting natural food sources.

This really is rich. ^_^

This isn't a thread about abortion. And given the site rules, you need to be careful about promoting it regardless of the topic of the thread.

Please.

Why is it better that the new immigrants occupy the land of your people instead of the old immigrants?

Sorry about that last post. After rereading it I guess you don't think it's a good thing other immigrants are taking the land of your people. You are simply satisfied to get revenge.

This has nothing to do with revenge. As I clearly said in my previous posts, I was talking about the irony of the descendant of immigrants complaining about other immigrants. Nothing more.

Upon further thought I overreacted and I am sorry. Lately it seems like I am just looking for an argument on this website and I need to stop doing that. I now realize the point you were trying to make and you have my humble apology.

I would like to see the US declare a National Indigenous Peoples Day. I don't think they should take Columbus Day away to do it though. Give them a separate day. Columbus's actions and the actions of other Europeans led to the deaths of many natives but let's remember that before he even came to America, native tribes were also slaughtering each other. That was human nature back then. After 500 years shouldn't it be time to forgive the actions of both groups?

It seems to me that California has adopted the model of government of much of Latin America. There is a small and affluent elite living beyond the reach of the hoi-polloi in their gated communities. And, as poverty levels in California begin to lead the nation, the needs of these elites are being served dirty cheap by an underclass of low cost workers doing their gardening and tending to their personal needs, but never being able to be anything but poor.
Middle class is eliminated by excessive regulation and bureaucracy.

The elites that run the Democratic Party approve of this model. This is the kind of society they want, and that is why they want more illegal immigration specifically. Legal immigration does not lead to the establishment of a permanent underclass, as legal immigrants advance to the middle class in less than a generation.
Illegal immigration on the other hand, leads to California, with privileged rich people being taken care of by poor people, and having all potential competitors from the rising middle class being squeezed out by byzantine regulations and blue tape that only the finest lawyers (who create all the rules in the first place) are able to navigate.

You recall that the current President literally has his own "tower", yes?

All Americans, save indigenous people and their descendants, are immigrants.

I say if you are born in America you are not an immigrant. You would be born to immigrant parents, but not an immigrant by definition. I mean we have tons of minority groups who have generations of living in America and I wouldn't call them a immigrant family.

you would think so but according to a sizeable portion of the population (including several members of this board) that doesn't mean you are an american.

Thanks to the efforts of the totally non-elite Republicans and their everyman President Donald Trump, those rich elitists in Hollywood are about to be a whole lot richer and probably more elite-y than ever before.

All Americans, save indigenous people and their descendants, are immigrants.

If you're going to say that someone is an immigrant if any of their ancestors is an immigrant, than all Americans are immigrants. We're pretty certain that human life didn't originate in America, even the "indigenous people" migrated here, just at an earlier date.

The only way that you can say that America is a "nation of immigrants" is either to define "immigrant" so broadly that every modern nation is a "nation of immigrants" or alternatively to define "immigrant" to arbitrarily include every US citizen on the idea that even if they are part of a family that has lived here for 10 generations, that's not quite enough to not count as an immigrant in this case.
