  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

As a descendant of Indigenous people, I find this thread humorous and very ironic to hear the descendants of European immigrants complain about other immigrants. The fact is, immigrants already took over the land now called California long ago, so to complain about other immigrants supposedly doing the same today is rather disingenuous, not to mention very comical.

it's basically "nativism" at it's core. the people who are complaining don't see themselves or their antecedents as being immigrants but rather as the founders and rightful owners.
this in their minds makes everyone else, even those that have been here for generations, an invader intent on overthrowing them.
it's laughable but also dangerous at the same time as it can lead to things such as the kkk, nazis and so forth.

That crossed my mind when I read the OP.

While their ancestors are immigrants, I don't think calling people who have for years lived here as immigrants. Heck, a lot of Hispanics have lived here for generations and many of them could be considered homegrown instead of immigrants.

And fewer non-Christian and immigrant families!

I would actually prefer non-Christian families over Christian families, if the said Christian families are part of a certain Christian sect that has caused many problems for LGBT people (such as denying them marriage equality and equal rights under the law) because their sexual orientation is contrary to evangelical biblical convictions. Fortunately, the United States has come a long way in LGBT rights in recent years. I would hate to see this hard won progress hindered by possible new laws that would again compromise the equal rights for LGBT citizens in this country. And as for immigrant families, xenophobia against minority immigrants has been a problem in this country for a long time, as has discrimination and racial violence against minorities has been ever present in this country too.

I think anyone whose land is being taken has a right to complain, and to fight for it, regardless of how they came to possess it.

It seems that the Spaniards had pretty much subdued the "Indigenous people" wherever they seized the land, so the Europeans had a much easier time wresting it from both them and the Spaniards.

I shared the article in the OP with some of my Indigenous friends. A couple of them even read through the thread too. They haven't stopped laughing yet. My friends just shook their head in amusement.

Were they laughing in English, or their native tongue? ;)

Good for them. It's truly an indication of their spirit that they can maintain their sense of humor in the face of such hypocrisy.

Stories, like the article in the OP, are commonly shared and always bring a good laugh.

I would like to say that a ton of immigrants are heck of conservative Christians, so that would be bad to say preferring non-Christians over Christians. Also a lot of them identify as evangelical.

Let me see if I got this straight. You think it was a bad thing that European immigrants took the country from Indigenous people but you think it is a good thing that other immigrants are taking over the New World from the Europeans? Why is it better that the new immigrants occupy the land of your people instead of the old immigrants?

Sorry about that last post. After rereading it I guess you don't think it's a good thing other immigrants are taking the land of your people. You are simply satisfied to get revenge.

Vengeance is never good. It always makes people feel empty and unsatisfied.
