How can we honestly discuss a topic (a topic started here by an outsider) if we cannot refer to the official doctrines that address points made? I again say, the issue was brought to us, we didn't start the thread.

The OP wasn't about Mary or salvation, it was about images.

No we are not. This is not an opinion, this is a Biblical principle. What is scripture for? Reproof, instruction, etc... Didn't Paul withstand Peter to the face over doctrine....?

Just an observation that can apply to any situation: quotes and passages taken out of context can really seem to mean something different than what they really mean. The Bible is a great example. But we must always remember context, if we are to have a fruitful discussion.

That is true, but where our churches would disagree on is what is the context that these truth are arrived at. Fundementally we look at things from a different angle, so our answers are bound to be different. It might also go further for us to agree to disagree on some subjects that we have rehashed over and over again.

"Opinion" is exactly what I am trying to avoid. I should be commended for not using "opinion". And remember, the topic was not raised by us, it was presented to us.

I post from their catechism or from their councils... if people want to conclude that the doctrines they espouse are not from God, that is not my problem. If they want to raise a topic in here, knowing the rules concerning debate, then they should be prepared to have their "sacred tradition" quoted.

Ignoring official doctrines is living in a fantasyland.
