  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I have to have surgery on Wednesday, it's out patient, I'll only be under for about an hour but none the less, I've never been under anesthesia and I'm scared. What if I don't wake up again? What if I bleed to death or have a heart attack? I was reading on the side effects and risks online and now I'm even more freaked out.

 We're here!!

Honey, there is nothing scarier than putting your life into the hands of another person and trusting them to get you through your trials, But don't forget that He is there with you waiting for you to say 'Help me & Carry me' It's times like this when the poem footprints comes into its own, reminding us that when things get tough its Him who carries us through and protects us.

Trust in Him and ask him to guide the hands, hearts and minds of all those associated with your surgery.

You're in our hearts and in our prayers.

I will pray for you. Keep strong in your faith that He has a plan for you -- if it's your time to go, it won't matter if you're on the OR table or sitting in your living room. Likewise if it's not your time, you'll surely be kept safe through His saving hand.

There's nothing to be afraid of love,

You are a child of God. You are a matter of steps away from heaven and being with your Lord.

Whether that means ten steps or ten thousand doesnt matter, the time it takes to get there is not the priority, what matters is that you are right now, living in an eternal life and this worldy state is just a small, tiny portion of it, a blink of the eye compared to your eternal reality.

( 2 Cor.4:16 )
" Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. For our light afflictions, which are but for a moment, are working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory; while, we do not look at the things which are seen but at the things which are not seen, for the things which are seen are temporary but the things which are not seen are eternal. "

What you are fearing right now are your senses, the things you can see and feel, but as this passage reveals, the truth is that our suffering here is just a second in time compared to the weight of ternal glory we really exist in.

So before you go to sleep my friend let your last thought be NOT on your body or your doctors or even your family, let it be on who and what you really are, an eternal child of God, on your way to wherever He chooses to send you, whether that be back here to this life for a little longer, or on to soke glorious adventure with Him in Heaven.

If I were you I would be more excited than scared. Yes it is certainly exhilarating and nervewracking, but it should not be scary if you can get your head on straight.

God bless you and look to the things of God in Heaven, not to the things of the earth, and your fears will subside.

( Col. 3:1-4 )
" If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things which are above where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on the things above, not on the things of the world, for you died, and your life is hid with Christ in God. And when Christ, who is our life appears, so we also shall appear with Him in glory. "

It's perfectly natural to be afraid, but i have to tell you that you're only going to make it even more frightening by reading internet horror stories about being anaesthetised..i went under too, i was afraid , but before i knew it i was awake and being prepared to leave the ward!

Hug's for Wednesday!

Thanks Inner and ukok...my fiance forbid me to read anything more about anasthesia on the internet.

:D

Hello loveisallyouneed:wave: ,

I am a board certified anestheisologist, if you have any questions, you can PM me. Basically anything CAN happen, but serious complications are rare. You have a better chance of hitting the daily lottery number 500 times than having a serious anesthetic complication.

If you want, I can tell you what questions to ask your anesthetist and what to look for.

in any case, I will pray for you:prayer:

The last time I had to go under for surgery, they had to give me some kind of nerve medicine (prozac or something) because I was so scared. I have a huge fear of doctors, hospitals, needles, basically everything medical. So, you can't possibly be more of a baby about it than I was, if that makes you feel any better ;)

You'll be fine. However, if you wake up hungry do not...I repeat...do not eat a Steak 'n Shake burger as your first post-surgery snack. Trust me.
