I agree that, for something to be ultimatly true, it needs to line up with scripture.
HOWEVER..
Not "Everything" in life is explained through scripture, there are nebulous areas that do come down to personal choice: What color shirt do I wear, what style of music do I listen to, how should I cut my hair..but I digress..
Well, actually those things ARE somewhat explained through God's Word,
and through His Holy Spirit whom dwells with all True Christians.
-Clothing-
1 Peter 3:3-4
(3) Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; (4) But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.
-Music-
Colossians 3:16
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
Ephesians 5:19
Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;
-Hair-
1 Corinthians 11:14-15
(14) Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him? (15) But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering.
mlukas said:
Yes, so did Jesus. Look at the parables!
Matthew 13:10-17
(10) And the disciples came, and said unto him, Why speakest thou unto them in parables? (11) He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given. (12) For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that he hath. (13) Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand. (14) And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive: (15) For this people's heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them. (16) But blessed are your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear. (17) For verily I say unto you, That many prophets and righteous men have desired to see those things which ye see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things which ye hear, and have not heard them.

I do not see that He said it was a way to teach to those
who did not believe the Scriptures.
If you would read it closely, it says,
the reason He spoke in parables, was to teach those who already knew,
more about the kingdom of God, but those who didn't know,
to take the understanding that they already had away from them.
For their understanding was their own, and not what God had given them.

Sometimes. But what can be more of an offense is the PRESENTATION of that truth. Jesus asked us to speak the truth, not necessarily to speak it in such a way as to p**s as many people off as possible. I think He expects us to show discretion and tact. If we show grace and tact in our presentation of the truth but someone gets offended, that's just life. But If we go in thumping our bibles shouting hellfire and brimstone and people get offended, that's our fault for having a lack of common sense.
Scriptures + Brains=Good
Scriptures - Brains=Bad unthinking zealot
Matthew 4:4
But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
Matthew 21:12-13
(12) And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves, (13) And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves.
Mark 7:6-8
(6) He answered and said unto them, Well hath Isaiah prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoreth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me. (7) Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. (8) For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do.

You might want to inform Jesus that he should quit the Bible thumping.
(2 Timothy 3:16-17 (16) All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: (17) That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.)

Matthew 13:36-52
(36) Then Jesus sent the multitude away, and went into the house: and his disciples came unto him, saying, Declare unto us the parable of the tares of the field. (37) He answered and said unto them, He that soweth the good seed is the Son of man; (38) The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one; (39) The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels. (40) As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; so shall it be in the end of this world. (41) The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity; (42) And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth. (43) Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Who hath ears to hear, let him hear. (44) Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field. (45) Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls: (46) Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it. (47) Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a net, that was cast into the sea, and gathered of every kind: (48) Which, when it was full, they drew to shore, and sat down, and gathered the good into vessels, but cast the bad away. (49) So shall it be at the end of the world: the angels shall come forth, and sever the wicked from among the just, (50) And shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth. (51) Jesus saith unto them, Have ye understood all these things? They say unto him, Yea, Lord. (52) Then said he unto them, Therefore every scribe which is instructed unto the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is a householder, which bringeth forth out of his treasure things new and old.

You might want to tell Jesus that He seems a little harsh.

And as for zealot, if you realize the disgusting wretched sinner that you are,
(like I have, because I was,) and then realize that
the Perfectly, Lovely, Lord, Almighty
had Died a horrendous death for you and forgiven you,
then you may become as zealous.

I speak from experience, I know what I was, and what I have done,
and now, if I sin, it is a devastating experience,
to realize I have wronged my Wonderful Righteous Lord.
And when I return and ask my Lord for forgiveness,
I know that He has already forgiven me and my soul aches all the more
because of His tender mercies to my imperfect self.
But then the sorrow turns to Joy, and I praise Him for his righteous mercies.

Praise the Lord God Almighty maker of Heaven and Earth
and Sustainer of all His people!

In the Love and Truth of My Lord and Saviour JESUS CHRIST,
Blessed be His name forever!

only looked over about 6 pages of this thread. It is probably just too late for me to concentrate on it. I have to say though. I do understand leaving Chrisitanity. I left it. I don't know if I understand why the posing poster left but I understand why I left and I am quite glad that I did.

What is the old Vorlon proverb? "The truth is a three edged sword". The following are mutually exclusive:
1. God is as Jason describes. Real Christians know him without doubt. Alleged Christians who doubt (or fall away) never trully knew him.
2. God is real and Christians know him to varying degrees. For some reason he does not make his reality known in an unmistakable way to the majority of believers. Rather, it is The Word and The Church who are the usual evidences to his reality.
3. God is not real as depicted in the Bible. All Christians who claim to know him are deluded or lying.

Each position has its problems.

Sorry but once a child of God....ALWAYS a child of God. You may not like it but you are a member of the Royal Family. Just because you don't want God in your life anymore, IS NOT the same for Him, your stuck. I do hope you will find your way back, because He will be waiting for you.

Sooooo...
to get to heaven, aside from being baptised, beleiving, following, etc, I also have to...

Only listen to hymns and spiritual songs..
Cut my hair short...
Only adorn myself with "righteousness and meekness" (I assume this means no jeans, leather jackets, earrings or modern cut clothes..)
AND I must ONLY quote scripture when speaking to others about God, Christ or any other holy thing...
Hmmm....
You just don't get it...I'm as greatful as you are to God for what he has done for me, I have sinned in my life and sinned greatly. And will sin in the future. I'm human, I know this for a fact:)
My point, which you refuse to see or get has been this and this alone..
Lee doesn't need bible thumping and someone like you judging his relationship with the Lord just because it doesn't line up with your view of the world that is , supposedly, backed up 100% by scripture.
And I never said that there wasn't times when you can't be direct and a little harsh, some people (not very many) need that.
BUT, the simple fact is that most people are more apt to listen to you when you ARE NOT harsh with them. Jesus knew when to be harsh and when to not be harsh, the simple fact is that you can't approach everybody the same way, everyone is different (I think Lee even aluded to this in a previous posting..)
Did he look at the woman caught in adultery and say "Die you filthy harlot!"
NO! And according to jewish law he could have!
He told her her sins were forgiven and to go her way and sin no more. No "you're going to hell" no "You hypocrite" ,etc, etc..
He knew that you had to answer people according to their circumstances and, most likely, psychological makeup. Meaning, some respond to kindness, others respond better to an "in your face" tactic. Everyone is different.
And as far as the prophets you have quoted, they were ordered by God to speak that way to a nation that had turned its back on God! He was trying to get their attention! I don't think the same tactic works well during a theological discussion or thread created to try and encourage someone.
My point, and it has been my point from my first thread directed at you is this:
Lee went on this thread looking for someone to understand him, and give him answers beyond the pat answers, cliche scriptures normally quoted in thes circumstances, and judgement that comes along when people seriously start to doubt God.
None of us, including me, are trying to water down christianity or play the hypocrite. The criticism of you started with you questioning whether or not Lee was ever saved based on the fact that he was questioning his faith. Again, read the scripture you quoted for that again, it IS possible even for true christians to fall away.
Lee is looking for God, looking for answers, looking for an understanding ear (correct me if I'm wrong Lee, I apologize if I assume too much..) and all you gave him was a clubbing with the Bible and a tongue lashing.
That, no matter how you try to slice it, is not loving or Christ like..
But I suppose you will find some scripture to twist and back up your attitude...
Let me leave you with this, if you were in Lee's position, what would you want? Some fanatical, judgemental post questioning whether he really knew God or not OR some of the other posts giving him real encouragment and trying to answer his questions beyond the spouting of a few verses..
I have a feeling, in the mask of your rigidity, you will answer the first option. In the reality of circumstances, I believe it would be the former.

There are times when I needed God the most that that was when I felt him the strongest. Sometimes things have to get tough for you to come closer to Him. I remember feeling His presence so strongly at church. That when I was singing I felt my body trying to force me into a involentary kneel. God's presence is definently real and there in my church. God is with me where ever I go. I can't help but follow and worship him. Sometimes I would question his existence. But then I remembered all of the times that he showed me he was real.

I do not say that real Christians know him without doubt. Real, or, True Christians, will examine what they know of Him, to see if it ligns up with what His Holy Words say, not their own, or other peoples. True Christians will not doubt regularly His existence, because it will overtake them, and they will have His peace, and presence, that passes all understanding with them continually, if they are walking with Him.

True Christians can slip, and do, but with my experience, and I believe with most, is they will get pulled up by the strong hand of God, and put on a higher place still.

That is, if you continue to seek Him, and hate your own stench.

First, if you were never a child of God, then you never were part of the "Royal Family", and never in His strong grasp.

Second, why do you believe this?

And lastly, this was taken from the best website on the internet, because of various reasons, I can not post the url, but, it is at the top of the links on my website.

This was excellently done by a True Child of God.

Can a man walk away from Jesus?

The word teaches a man can fall from his own stedfastness (sample scriptures below). When we get saved, we enter into a marriage covenant--that is why Jesus is called the Bridegroom (the OT also reveals that our Maker is our husband [Is 54:5]). Jesus will never leave us, but a man can taste of the heavenly gift and make the horrific, despicable decision to go back to the world and forsake the Lord--just like an adulterer that taketh strangers and instead of his spouse. For such an one there is NO place of repentance. Many teach that you are saved, unsaved, saved again--there is no Bible teaching to support this, but there is plenty of teaching to support that a man can taste of the heavenly gift and reject it. For such an one there is NO place of repentance.

The church is severely compromised this day. False doctrinal schemes take scriptures out of context (to the exclusion of all others) to make people think that they can be children of disobedience and still be assured of heaven. This is an eruption of the ancient, grievous scourge of antinomianism. Jesus died to save His people FROM THEIR SINS--"Thou shalt call his name Jesus for he shall save his people from their sins". Modern day evangelists emphasize a Saviour from hell, but the Bible emphasizes a Saviour from sin--Read Romans chapters 6,7, and 8 CONSECUTIVELY. Jesus will save you from the GUILT and POWER of sin. The word says that sin shall have NO DOMINION over you--Jesus will have the dominion over you. The blood of Jesus is powerful enough to save you from the shame of sin. You become a new creature--not the same old one living lukewarm and careless under the power of the devil. If you taste of the heavenly gift and go back to the world, it is better that you had not known the way of life in the first place (II Pet 2:21).

The Bible saith not in vain to work out your salvation with fear and trembling. If you abide in the true vine, you have nothing to worry about. If you are carnal, you should be VERY worried. You have no fear of God for by fear of the LORD men DEPART from evil (Pro 16:6)--a man that fears God does not stay in evil as you do. The following is a little sample to show that the despicable can walk away from the Lord. Dispensationalists will tell you that Hebrews is "for the Jews". I reject that. I read ALL the word. I consider ALL the word. They'll say the same thing about Matthew. Why do they do that? Because these books contain scriptures that dismantle the mumbo-jumbo gumbo that they learned from Larkin and the crew. ALL scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable FOR DOCTRINE for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness. Why? That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works (ref II Tim 3:16-17). Without further adieu, scriptures proving that a man can depart from the faith...

Hebrews 10:38-39 Now the just shall live by faith: but IF any man DRAW BACK, my soul shall have no pleasure in him. But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.

Hebrews 3:6 But Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we, IF we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end.

Hebrews 3:12 Take heed, BRETHREN, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, IN DEPARTING FROM THE LIVING GOD. 3:13 But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. 3:14 For we are made partakers of Christ, IF we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast UNTO THE END;

Hebrews 4:1 Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to COME SHORT OF IT.

Hebrews 4:8-11 For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day. There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his. Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man FALL after the same example of unbelief.

Hebrews 6:4-9 For IT IS IMPOSSIBLE for those who were once enlightened, and HAVE TASTED OF THE HEAVENLY GIFT, AND WERE MADE PARTAKERS OF THE HOLY GHOST, And HAVE TASTED the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, IF THEY SHALL FALL AWAY, TO RENEW THEM AGAIN UNTO REPENTANCE; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame. For the earth which drinketh in the rain that cometh oft upon it, and bringeth forth herbs meet for them by whom it is dressed, receiveth blessing from God: But that which beareth thorns and briers is rejected, and is nigh unto cursing; whose end is to be burned. But, beloved, we are persuaded better things of you, and things that accompany salvation, though we thus speak.

Hebrews 10:26-29 For if we sin wilfully AFTER that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries. He that despised Moses' law died without mercy under two or three witnesses: Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, WHEREWITH HE WAS SANCTIFIED, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?

Hebrews 12:13-17 And make straight paths for your feet, lest that which is lame be turned out of the way; but let it rather be healed. Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord: LOOKING DILIGENTLY LEST ANY MAN FAIL OF THE GRACE OF GOD; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled; LEST THERE BE ANY FORNICATOR, OR PROFANE PERSON, AS ESAU, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright. For ye know how that afterward, when he would have inherited the blessing, he was rejected: for HE FOUND NO PLACE OF REPENTANCE, though he sought it carefully with tears.

1 Thessalonians 3:5 For this cause, when I could no longer forbear, I sent to know your faith, lest by some means the tempter have tempted you, and our labour be in vain.

2 Peter 1:10 Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election SURE: for IF ye do these things, ye shall never FALL:

2 Peter 3:17 Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being LED AWAY with the error of the wicked, FALL from your own stedfastness.

2 Peter 2:20 For if AFTER THEY HAVE ESCAPED THE POLLUTIONS OF THE WORLD THROUGH THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE LORD AND SAVIOUR JESUS CHRIST, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. 2:21 For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, AFTER THEY HAVE KNOWN IT, TO TURN from the holy commandment delivered unto them. 2:22 But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.

Colossians 1:22 In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight: IF YE CONTINUE in the faith grounded and settled, and BE NOT MOVED AWAY from the hope of the gospels, which ye have heard, and which was preached to every creature which is under heaven; whereof I Paul am made a minister;

1 John 2:24 Let that therefore abide in you, which ye have heard from the beginning. IF that which ye have heard from the beginning SHALL REMAIN IN YOU, ye also shall continue in the Son, and in the Father.

Romans 11:19 Thou wilt say then, The branches were broken off, that I might be graffed in. 11:20 Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Be not highminded, but fear: 11:21 For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee. 11:22 Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, IF THOU CONTINUE in his goodness: OTHERWISE THOU ALSO SHALT BE CUT OFF. 11:23 And they also, if they abide not still in unbelief, shall be graffed in: for God is able to graff them in again.

1 Corinthians 15:1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; 15:2 By which also ye are saved, IF ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.

2 John 1:8 Look to yourselves, that we lose not those things which we have wrought, but that we receive a full reward. 1:9 Whosoever transgresseth, and ABIDETH NOT in the doctrine of Christ, HATH NOT GOD. HE THAT ABIDETH in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son.

Romans 2:6 Who will render to every man according to his deeds: 2:7 To them who BY PATIENT CONTINUANCE IN WELL DOING seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life: 2:8 But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath, 2:9 Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile; 2:10 But glory, honour, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile: Ezekiel 18:26 When a righteous man turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and dieth in them; for his iniquity that he hath done shall he die. 18:27 Again, when the wicked man turneth away from his wickedness that he hath committed, and doeth that which is lawful and right, he shall save his soul alive.
