  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

It's not so much the fact that they've only been together a year, it's that two years ago, she would never have even heard of the fellow.

I don't want to be a naysayer, but a marriage betwixt a 23 year-old man (who might—I hesitate to say for certain—live outside his income) and a 22 year-old girl just seems a bit young; also, given that they both share the same very flighty "devil-may-care" attitude gives me cause for concern that they really know what it is ahead of them...

Perhaps I'm simply old-fashioned—but I believe we already knew this. ;)

Then again, I am far more than a disinterested party, so I admit to both bias and agenda in my concern.

Define old fashioned? Married in late teens, early 20's after knowing each other less than 2 years like the baby boomer generation, or old fashioned getting married in mid to late teens after knowing each other less than 2 years like the 3 or so preceding generations?

All right, very good. Thank you for your thoughts. I will rejoice for their happiness whilst breathing a prayer of thankfulness that I remain single. ^_^

EDIT -

True enough! I now realise my comment was quite ambiguous. Old-fashioned in that flighty people should become a little serious when approaching something as serious as marriage.

Now, I realise I do not know the fellow well, but never once have I seen him serious, and the girl, I've known her over twelve years, and have seen that she can be serious, but I've only seen it a very few times in those years.

It's precisely this maturity of which I am seeing but few signs. I'm sure I just haven't seen the maturity that must be latent.

I'm not trying to sound harsh... I love them both dearly, and I don't want to see them (or their families) hurt unnecessarily.

Those MBTI folks, yes, I am the Protector. :)

I dunno... waiting that long to get engaged doesn't sound very devil-may-care to me. if they'd gotten engaged within weeks or 2 months or something of their first date... that may be somewhat reckless. and 22/23 isn't that young for marriage.

But then again... I don't know them and can't comment on that aspect of their relationship.

most people seem to get engaged 6-12 months of their first date. Or at least thats what I've been noticing lately. so 10 months isn't crazy fast. I'd want to wait a year before getting engaged personally, but everyone moves at a different pace.

Nac ydw, dw i ddim eisiau i. Peidiwch gwneud i mi.

(Google Translate caters to the southern dialect. It doesn't help me cheat when I'm practicing writing sentences. I really need to get on those lessons. Right now I can only talk about what I want/like/try and whether I want to go/stay etc. Boring.)

It's amazing how easily people offend. You could slam every nationality and affliction in the world but once you touch on something they deal with in life, BAM! You're an ignorant heathen throwing around demeaning terms and not worthy of any sort of acceptance.

Oy! I guess everyone has their buttons.

On the one hand i'm annoyed that Mr Landlord came round without any notice to look at the windows.
On the other i'm pleasantly surprised that he came around, actually looked at the windows and has given me a timescale as to when he'll be doing invasive wall surgery/kicking me out of my bedroom for 2 days.

On both hands I am annoyed I slept in this late, have missed the self imposed deadline and have a head that feels as if I spent yesterday with Samuel Buca and Terry Quila.
