The atheist OP asks: "If you were conceived just a second later.. would you be a completely different person, in looks and personality?"

If the same sperm and egg met, it wouldn't matter if it were done in that same second, in that same minute, in that same hour, or EVEN during the same YEAR.

It wouldn't make any sense that the same person wouldn't be created, when that exact same egg cluster came into being, powered by the same Mother and Father.

In fact, when a person is "conceived" by in vitro fertilization, this is the living, breathing confirmation of it.

However you "make it happen" that same person will be created.

As far as personality is concerned, a person's personality has (at least something) to do with the way his parents treat him. So, if conceiving later-in-Time affects the way his parents treat him, then his parents MAY cause him to be different.

Oh come now, methinks you people are thinking way too small. A second is all it takes for a car to hit you as it careens out of control, a second more to work up the courage to marry the love of your life, a second is all the time someone else needs to take an opportunity before you.

The atheist OP asks me: "Just interested in why you address me as the "atheist" OP? Do you normally do this?"
Hmm, well I have done it twice, now.
If I do it another 12 times, then I guess you could correctly say that I normally do this.

And, he said: "I'm not offended, just interested."
So, since you aren't offended, I guess you are giving me absolute permission to keep saying it. Isn't that True?

You can say it all you like, i do admit it makes me lol. Just wondering why you have decided to single me out? You didn't answer why you have decided to address me as an atheist.

The sometimes-Atheist OP said: "You didn't answer why you have decided to address me as an atheist."

Well, I can't remember why I did it the first time.
But, I certainly want to make you feel good.
And, now, since you claimed: "i do admit it makes me lol." ... I guess I will use it more often in the future.

i would disagree, there is alot of influence in the womb and it might make you look slighlty different and you may have a different personality. Not ot mention all of the chance mutations aong other things. Your fingerprints would be fdifferent too ithink

So:

Let's take this theory:

The child was conceived on January 23rd to seemingly healthy parents. The child is a male, no real long term efflictions as it grows up.

That *exact* same child could hypothetically be conceived on June 17th to seemingly healthy parents. The child is female, and has behavioural problems and a disease that depletes the lower intestine.

Why is this?

Well, the parents, over that six month span, could have changed their diet, ingested more PCBs (synthetic chemicals) than usual, had a small-time addiction to codeine, moved to Sri Lanka from Australia.

Furthermore, once the child has been born, the social implications around the child would be different.

Any number of factors could give rise to a change in who or what is conceived.

Saying that no matter what time in history you conceive, you will still get the same outcome is ludicrous. Abandoning all outside factors in any argument is ludicrous.

But, I'm sure you knew that Christian OP....

It is not possible that I could have been conceived any later than I was. The guy that was one second behind the sperm that produced me would have produced a completely different individual.

You look the way you do because of the sperm that reached the egg. A second late could mean a different sperm and thusly....a different person. During conception there are -thousands- of different outcomes. Heck...a second could mean the difference than male or female. To say personality would be different would be dependant upon dominant genes going one way or another. IIRC, everyone is female initially and then the chromosomes change to become male...but I'm no doctor.

While some personality traits are indeed affected by the way you are raised, certain characteristics are sometimes present regardless of parental interaction (schizophrenia, autism, Asberger's)

Basically, you are saying that you wouldn't be you, just with this tiny delay. I tend to agree. You might have someone very similar, but not you.

Please tell me you know each other and are joking around...

Since I am not allowed to address *you*, may I say that your post sounds like something a jerk would post. Why would you treat ANYONE like that regardless of what they believe?

So, are y'all buddies talking junk or is your post as ugly as it sounds?

We don't know each other. I found his approach a little strange, but i honestly wasn't insulted, although i was very intrigued by the unusualness of his post. I've noticed since, "solidly" has a very unique style, but i have no idea how he ticks.
