I would go back in time to the era in 1885-1909 era so I would go to the Buffalo Bill Wild West show and see Annie Oakley perform and to meet her and I would bring my guitar(I think guitar's were rare in the country during those days--(mostly people played lap harps, fiddles, banjo's and other instruments) and I would probably attract attention to Buffalo Bill who would put me in the show to sing and play the guitar but then I'll shock the stuffing out of everyone by singing 60's style protest songs against injustice towards Native Americans--I'll sing Bob Dylan's song "With God on our Side",--contradicting the image of how Natives are portrayed in the Wild WEst show etc.
Then, I wonder what would happen if in the process of coming back to the future, Annie follows me to my time machine and rounds up going to the future, but she gets accidently brought to Woodstock in 1969? No, actually, it would be too wild and yucko. Lets say Annie gets transported to a hippie christian gathering where everyone has dreadlocks, tiedye, and drumming on djembe drums worship to Abba! I wonder what victorian era, proper quaker Annie would think?

And I would love to go back in time back in time sometime between 1939 and 1985 and meet Margaret (Maggie) Hamilton, the actress who played the wicked witch of the west in the Wizard of Oz--but I would especially like to meet her in her later years--(she looked like a sweet little granny! She had also been a kindergarten teacher and loved children in real life--total opposite of her wicked witch character!) and ask her about her friendship with my great-aunt who knew her(of course I would like to see Aunt Sue again and ask her about her friendship with Maggie--I never got the opportunity to do so). I would like to pinch Maggie's long nose, too!

Well, completely theoretically of course, I'd be wary of impacting history and what catostrophic changes might happen. As such, if I would ever go back in time, it would be as an observer.

Of course, I'm saying all this as if time travel would ever be possible ^_^

Its a difficult one for me, I'd go back to the 60's because I'm into psyadelic art (though I cant spell it), I'd like to be a part of the protest movement against the vietnam war.

I'd like to go back to the 70's and wittness the skateboarding revolution first hand (the z-boys).

I'd like to go back to the victorian period, the middle classes were truely great in this period, abolishing slavery, educated, commisioning fine buildings art work really trying to change the world.

On the surface, that seems like a great idea but there are some pretty serious moral and philosophical questions to ask.

What is God's will? What is fate? What if my attempts to help actually do more harm than good?

For instance, it seems like a good idea to go back in time to kill Hitler when before he became chancelor.

No invasion of Poland, no Kristolnacht, no Holocaust, no war in Britain.

Those things are all very good, right?

The problem is that our war with Germany was the only thing stopping the Soviet Union from defeating them and taking over Europe.

Josef Stalin killed as many, if not more, people than Hitler did and enslaved many more.

While millions died under Hitler, many millions more would have died under Stalin and an entire continent would be under tyranny now.

I would not go back as far, just to the late 40's-50's when "times were good" values were wholesome and there was NOT so much political correctness.

I would change Rowe v.Wade

Is this permanent or just a vacation?

If the former, I would choose Enlightenment era Europe, when knowledge and philosophy were cool and personal hygeine was less of an issue. If the latter, I think it wold be interesting to go back to the newborn Earth, before any humans lived on it- wander around in the unspoiled wilderness.

Could one person do that? How would you do it?
