If you could be any character, who would you be?

Hmm? What? Were you talking to me?

Being anyone from the Chronicles of Narnia would be great just to meet Aslan. Of course I wouldn't want to be the white witch, ouch! But I think I would want to be Queen Lucy because she's the one who belives first and never stops, she's brave and honest and responsible and kind, and she's a good friend.

So when did you start having this desire to die in a train wreck?

Not really a shot at you, just that after really thinking about it there are few major characters I would want to be. Generally they live lives that are fun to read about but that would not be fun to have.

You read the Star Wars EU books? Jaina, Mara, Mirta, Saba even Leia depending on who's writing her are all good strong female sci-fi charactors. Riply from Alien.
Dax twice, Kira,7of9, Janeway, Torres from Star Trek.
Thats just off the top of my head.

But for myself I'll go with Han the reluctant good guy.

Okay taking that into view, I don't want to see my best friend die and outlive my kids. So Han is out. Which probably means the best charactor to be would be Merry or Pippin, nothing too bad happens to them and they live into thier 100's, actually most of the supporting cast of LOTR wouldn't be too bad. Gimli, Legolas all have pretty good lives. So one of them.

Pretty good choices. The one downside for all these is their races will be in decline, possibly to the point of dying out. Something that would matter to Gimli and Legolis a bit more than Merry or Pippin. Also Tolkein leaves the fate of Hobbits more in doubt, they may still exist, just being more hidden.

You pointed out an interesting thing, often if a story has any characters who it would be decent to be it has several.

Oscar from Glory Road (Heinlein) is pretty good for a hero, if one reads to the very end. A pretty rough streak when the story gets to where others go with 'and they lived happily ever after'. But at the end he has a pretty good life for anyone who wants to be a hero. But sidekick Rufo is perhaps even a better person to be! Of course Oscar has one thing going for him, he can be welcomed coming throught the front door as a hero at Jocko's.

LOL! Some of these answers...

I wouldn't mind being someone in the Trek Universe but not one of the characters themselves. I love the Dr. Phlox character but wouldn't want to BE him, though it would be fun to be someone who works closely with him.

And I loved the Q answer. I wouldn't want to BE Q but I wouldn't mind being A Q.
Oh yeah, we could pick things like Red Sonja (counterpart to Conan) but who wants to constantly be threatened with Death, at least Q can't be killed except by another Q. Who wants to be one of those soldier women in any of those battle oriented SF books (for the same reason as above).

I wouldn't mind being a Queen of some huge, rich, beautiful kingdom on some gorgeous world cuz I was simply born to be rich and to be waited on hand and foot.

Oh Boy what a choice.

Sailor Mercury from Sailor Moon (Yes it's anime but I couldn't resist. She is so smart and calm and loyal and I am a lot like her character in may ways)

Jaina Solo from the Star Wars novels. She's a Jedi and she is great with mechanical stuff, not to mention all the incredible adventures and hair raising action.

Tasha Yar - because she is tough, strong, and gets to explore new planets and civilizations.

Eomer from Lord of the Rings. Yeah, he's not perfect, and he nearly got himself killed when he saw his sister Eowyn and thought she was dead after her fight with the Witch King, but he gets to be king of the coolest nation in LOTR.

I'd also be Tenchi from the Tenchi Muyo series, but that many girls would drive me up a wall and across the ceiling, and would have to choose one, but that series is extremely funny.

If I think of more, I'll put them.
